I have noticed some strange behavior happening with Konqueror when checking out web sites with animated gifs, most notably EZboard discussion forums. There are a couple of things: first, the animation happens at warp speed (which, I think is normal as this has occured with my previous Mandrake installations). But most discouraging is that X starts chewing up 99% of my processor time, which completely slows down the whole system. Moving on to an animation free web site gets rid of the problem and the same behaviour does not happen with Mozilla.
If the problem occured with Mozilla as well I would blame the kernel. But since it only happens with Konqueor I am not sure what the problem is. I have noticed this behaviour on quite a few sites but it doesn't seem to be happening on this site. As I type this message I have a few animated icons right beside the message body box that aren't being animated like a cheetah on crack and X is hovering around 16% CPU usage.
Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks..

apparently animated gifs sucking up most of the cpu is common across operating systems. |
