Ciao a tutti, oggi parlando in facoltà mi è stato proposto di installare Linux su di un laptop Compaq Armada 4131T che purtroppo non ha hard disk interno... :x
Cercando sulla rete ho trovato che Linux su questo portatile si può installare e funziona bene...magari Gentoo potrebbe richiedere qualcosina in più in fatto di hardware, ma ormai la sfida è stata raccolta.

Consultando la guida "Gentoo senza HD" ho trovato spunti interessanti, mi è venuto però in mente che si potrebbe provare utilizzando una scheda PCMCIA USB per fare il boot da Hd esterno...pura fantasia o è fattibile ?

Se il portatile supporta il boot da usb allora puoi usare un hard-disk esterno, altrimenti propenderei per un livecd che salva le impostazioni degli utenti su una penna o su di un altro tipo di dispositivo storage. Poi se il portatile deve girare su una rete si può anche fare un livecd minimale che fa partire una sessione di X remota da un pc che fa da server XDMCP.

Da quello che ho capito non c'é la USB visto che deve usare la pcmcia per mettere su l'USB.

Ok titolo modificato...magari avrò bisogno anche di un po' di supporto :roll:

Il problema è che il suddetto laptop non ha cd e hd.
Devo verificare meglio se supporta il boot da Usb che però sono su pcmcia...strada un po' insicura viste le prime ricerche...
Il secondo problema è la rete dato che anche la porta ethernet non è presente integrata sul laptop ma sempre via pcmcia.
Cosa che va in esclusione con l'usb...mi sa che sono in un punto morto.

nemmeno un drive per floppy?
ma il cd-rom e il disco fisso sono rotti/mancanti/impossibili da installare?
quanta ram è installata?

Senza HD, CD, USB e rete credo anche io che non vai troppo lontano. Il Floppy?

Ci sarebbero anche gli HD in formato PCMCIA ma non so come vengono visti dal sistema.

No no il mitico floppy è presente :D

Tutto il resto è mancante...devo arrangiarmi con quello che ho...ovvero floppy e pcmcia.

Dovrebbe avere 96 Mb di RAM.
