Hi,

i heard a lot about ricer and co. but i think that the problem is, that no one knows howto optimize intelligent FOR EVERY single package. so i suggest of having a database where everyone can post his best experiences relating to speed, security, functions whatever for every single package so that if you want to have a fast system just do now for example emerge -uDva [speed] world and all new packages will be installed after the best suggestions from user users (package.use; compiler optimations etc.).
i hope this idea is something what could be some good stuff.

Greetings, Oliver

A shame .go isn't a domain, or it could be setup at go.ricer.go.

Let the developers of the package decide on the the best optimisations.

this would be a great idea too because imho is gentoo feelable slower than debian. so i think it would be good if we could get from global optimation settings to package specific optimation parameters. and i think it would be great if someone of the devs would propose this idea under the developers.

Greetings, Oliver

I seriously doubt the devs would be interested, as I'm sure it'll just generate more bugs that are difficult to track down. Not something they try to facilitate.

I think you missed my point. The developers of a particular package already do specify optimisations for it that they believe are the most beneficial. There should be no need to have a package.cflags like optimisation setting.
