I should have higher resolutions supported under the new Live CD. The main problem is the Gentoo X creation scripts. ddcinfo-knoppix only seems to report back 1024x768 as the max, no matter what computer I run it on. I've made a way around this, but if it doesn't work then you can run a script to configure X the same ay as 0.1 release (which will set to 1024x768).

linuxkrn,

I have put transset-df on the new CD.. how does one activate it?
What does trans-inactive do?

Cheers,
-c

@Taskara:
I tried transset some time ago (if I remember correctly), but doesn't this make transparency effects for usual X servers (without Xgl)? Isn't this useless for a Xgl LiveCD?

Could you maybe check on the missing modules Glcore, GLX and speedo? This error has already happened to me on 2 computers (both i810 laptops)!

If you boot from harddisk (https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-3182638.html#3182638), you can add 'nox' to the grub entry. After booting into the textmode, edit xorg.conf as you like, then start gdm.

Some others have had this issue, and now that I think of it they have all been Athlon CPUs.

The XP CPUs should have SSE support.. can you check for me?
Code:
cat /proc/cpuinfo

Your DOSCSI boot option does not seem to work. It did not load the aic7xxx module, thus it could not
find by CD ROM.

The DOSCSI option does work with the 2006.1 Gentoo CD.

Surprised nobody's asked this, but uhm, how did you get that titlebar theme for compiz? Is it available somewhere or is it merely a color/fade change in the original source file?

Titlebar theme is a compiz thing and not available without it afaik.

I am working on dri support, but I can't get intel to work atm..

I left scsi support OFF version 0.1, I have included it under 0.2 which I'm working on currently. Sorry about that.

Posting from the livecd as I type. This is amazing! It runs very stable on my p4 3ghz nVidia Go5200.

And you have another request, btw, for tuxracer. Also, would mplayer be much of a problem :?:

Simple. After it's all booted up, hit ctrl+alt+backspace. Then edit your xorg.conf resolution section to whatever you like (I set mine to 1600x1200), then do a 'goxgl' to get back into the graphical environment using your new res!

Didn't work for me. I have an NVIDIA GeForce 2 Ti, and it fails to load the nvidia module. I know it's not in the list of supported cards, but the nvidia driver works perfectly for me on gentoo so I thought I'd simply install it in the livecd and try to start XGL again.

The problem is that the / seems to be mounted read-only. Is there any way I can remount it/change how it mounts (apart from modifying the cd itself)? Or any other way to install the nvidia module apart from the nvidia-provided curses-based interface one? Maybe I should check out portage's ebuild and imitate it.

Another mirror. 8) I'll take it down if it eats up too much bandwidth.

OK, who's smart idea was it to NOT include Nano on the Kororaa XGL CD??? 8O

vi as the only editor on a CD that is supposed to be USER FRIENDLY  C'mon guys, include a texteditor that doesnt require spending 3 days just to learn how it works. Requering vi is beyond overkill when u need to edit eg 2-3 lines in xorg.conf.

Although I hate vi and like nano myself, many people swear by it. So I guess its developer's preference.

Instead of bitching and complaining, you could offer constructive criticism and/or ASK for a feature.

If you read the Dev's posts, he clearly does say that he based it on a custom live cd he made for himself.

Keep also in your mind that this is only the first release of a XGL live cd.

One mans bitching and complaining is another mans valid cry for attention of a very big oversight that will leave a large part of the target users stunned and unable to even figure out how to even exit from the texteditor, let alone actually change anything in the file to be edited.

And if you read anything about what the target user is for Kororaa in general then it becomes pretty clear that at least the option to use a simple texteditor should be present. The learning curve and intuitiveness of vi is by far the worst Ive ever seen on a text editor and not something you should push down the throat of everybody.

Oh.. did I leave off nano?? :? How the hell did I do that when it comes with Gentoo base by default. Let me check this!!

[time passes]

As far as I can tell nano is indeed included on the CD, under /usr/bin ?
Code:
# whereis nano
nano: /bin/nano /usr/bin/nano /usr/X11R6/bin/nano /usr/bin/X11/nano /usr/man/man1/nano.1.gz /usr/share/man/man1/nano.1.gz
So looks like it's there to me.
Code:
# ls -l /usr/bin/nano
lrwxrwxrwx  1 root root 9 Mar  8 04:34 /usr/bin/nano -> /bin/nano
Code:
# ls -l /bin/nano
-rwxr-xr-x  1 root root 122708 Mar  2 10:06 /bin/nano

Code:
# nano -w doesthiswork?

Code:
 GNU nano 1.3.9             File: doesthiswork?

Hello
this is me typing something in Nano under the liveCD :)

-c

                                  [ New File ]
^G Get Help  ^O WriteOut  ^R Read File ^Y Prev Page ^K Cut Text  ^C Cur Pos
^X Exit      ^J Justify   ^W Where Is  ^V Next Page ^U UnCut Txt ^T To Spell

I haven't booted to the CD, I just mounted the iso and then the squashfs. I could confirm later if it is indeed there or not (I don't see why not, as /usr/ is mounted readonly so I couldn't even delete the file if I wanted to, which I don't anyway ;))

Can I ask what you typed and what errors you got? Don't tell me you're trying to run "Nano" :P

Can anyone else confirm it is definately on the CD when booted to it?

Cheers,
Chris

This is what helped for my 1600x1200 desktop as well as the 1400x1050 laptop:
Code:
$ sudo su -
# chooseres
# gdm-restart

Greetings

only problem found so far is the lack of sound, finds the hardware OK.

Having problem to boot the CD on my workstation, I have a hunch its becuase of the DVI connection. CD seems to boot fine but just when its finished and X is about to start the screen turns off.

P4 3.0
2Gb Ram
6800GT
Samsung 970p TFT

Anyway, great job making a XGL-livecd! Even thought Iam not able to try it right now :)

Edit: Fixed it now, actually it was so simple I just had to remove the TV-Out cable. Guess it was on defualt to use the TV as monitor. Anyways writing this with XGL and its working nicely!
