I have released Kororaa Xgl Live CD version 0.2 today! We have hacked our Kororaa Installer to work with this Xgl Live CD, so easy installation is now possible! This version also sports both Radeon and Intel DRI support, KDE 3.5.2, updated Gnome 2.14, Arch-CK 2.6.16 Kernel, SCSI support and more!

Just finish my torrent download and also left it seeded.
Now my hdd is spinning like crazy!
Upload at 3~4 MB/sec, people are really getting excited about this!
I 'll burn this iso and test it tonight.
EDIT
It works great like the previous one. Now sound is auto on.
Both Gnome and KDE work nicely.
The matrix effect is cool, but it gets annoying after a while. 
You should put the turn off script the same place though.

Hauser, OK I can change that for the next release  of course you could just use another kernel in the mean time

Thanks for the new release. Unfortunely, you also compiled MSDOS_FS into kernel (which should be compiled as a module), now a vfat partition will be mounted as a msdos partition. As a consequence, the "livecd.squashfs" file becomes "livecd~1.squ" and the boot process can't continue. To make it work, I had to rename it into something shorter, such as "sysimg" and write a grub entry like this:

Besides, when gdm starts I got a blank screen. I had to run "fixme", manually added "1280x1024" to the 24 depth line to get the high resolution.
I'm going to try the installer later.

Oh man, I just stumbled on this yesterday.. it was *EXACTLY* what I wanted. Finally I can see what my ol' ATI Mobility 7500 can do. Everything looks GREAT, except video crashes the system for me. But thanks a ton for this, I can't wait for 100% compatibility.. That cube is just too good.
This is on my Compaq 2700T. The "matrix" script on the desktop does nothing for me though? I double click it and nothing happens. Also, I tried opening a terminal and it wouldn't open for some reason. I don't care at all, I really just wanted to see XGL running on my system!!

That's strange, did you install on a fat32 partition?  I haven't heard of this issue before..
Re the resolution, nvidia and fglrx should work out the best res, but for dri systems I hard coded to 1024x768..

The console is a known issue, due to a library link problem with gnome-terminal but it should work under KDE..
Not sure xgl-cool though, that should work. it's just a script, maybe you can play around with it.

Yeah, got it now
This release seems a little more buggy in my experience: xgl hardly wants to start at all and gdm easely crashes. |

I didn't install it on a fat partition. I put the files in the iso there and tried to boot the livecd like one boots from a cd drive. This is a way for windows people to try the livecd on a machine without a cd drive (or a cd-burner).

No dice here, I have 1680x1050 laptop monitor, X doesn't start correctly, lots of pretty colors but that's it, must be something wrong with the resolution I guess.

0.1 worked fine but this one is the opposite. The splash screen is all corrupted like one of Lxnays older livecd's and it locks up (black screen) when starting X. I haven't tried "nofb" though.
BTW, taskara could you please add gparted to the livecd? It's a great partition tools that works like a charm unlike qtparted . It's on the RR4 and RR64 livedvd but I all my computers don't have dvd .

I've not read all of this post thorouly but it seems to me that everybody so far has said it runs smoothly, even on modest hardware,
I seem to be suffering ;( Im on an AMD64 XP3000 with 1 gig DDR400 and a PCI-express el-cheapo 6200, and i get like 1 frame in 10 seconds .
Seem like either my card just sucks to much, or something isnt right..
I can play doom3 on this system so it cant be so bad
Any thoghts?

Something i failed to mention before, if i leave the system to start up on its own it gets as far as the X screen with the black/white pixel matrix and a timer (watch symbol). It doesnt go any further, even after 5 minutes or so, if i then ctrl+Alt+f1 and then crtl+alt+f7 quick enough it will then load in. Other sie X closes and i have to do an xdm zap and xdm start. still it doesn't start up unless i flick from X to pty and back quickly though 
Just booted on my old XP2000 laptop (HP compaq nx9005) works smoothly on that, but things like the panal/bar at the top are messed up only the top left side of the screen is correct, the right and bottom left are black..
Am about to try on my old XP2400 GeFroce 4 MX440

Is anybody able to play video with this beast? when ever i try Xgl exits..
I have run an install.. it didn't go to well , loads of files missing but i am wondering if that was caused by my 6 year old dvd drive acting up. That said i mounted the livecd.squashfs and manually copied everything across afterwards and now all is well.
The world file seems to be very sparse, with a massive list of things now emerging in order to get wine for a bit of google earth.
Feedback regarding video would be good.. apart from that it seems quite remarby stable. I am running it in kde after hacking the necessary kdm scripts.

What videocard do you have? I have the same problem ( from live cd), but I thought it was because of my laptop's intel855GM.
Quite happy with the performance of the compiz effects on this little thing. But as soon as I try to play video, X crashes. |

Its an nvidia GForce 4 MX440.
I also tried on a laptop but haven't tried video. This is an ATI IGP 320M. Whilst it seems reasonably responsive on this at first, the problem comes in scrolling thru webpages, this is painfully laggy. It is only just barable on the MX440, in firefox the smooth scroll really suffers and suspect is totally unusable on the laptop.

I just tried version 1 of the live cd on my laptop, but it didn't work. Everything booted fine until it came to starting to wm, and then all I got was a black screen. My video card is an Intel 855GM, so that is probably why.
I would try it on my desktop, but my video card is WAY too old (RIVA TNT2), so I figure this will deffinitly bomb out.
Just reporting for statistical purposes. |

I read about the alleged GPL violations on your website. I'd like to hear how this plays out, since I'm involved on the business end of GPL related things.
It looks to me that you probably weren't in violation since other distro's distribute these drivers as well. Althogh they may also be in violation, some of these distros are backed by big companies with lawyers and $$$ to figure things out properly.
Could you post the result here after you get things sorted out? |

| As a member of the Kororaa Team, I can relay information that the XGL LiveCD will NOT be brought back for now. There are too many issues with making sure that it works on ALL supported graphics cards, and more. We have been thinking about this for a while now, and hence forth all development has been put to the 2006 release (Do NOT ask for a release date.). |

I can see the issue, but this since the Kororaa devs don't have the source of those drivers either, this is putting bureaucracy above freedom.

No, but shipping the code with closed sourced software *does*.
So basically, we just have to pray that the DRI guys come up with something decent for all ATi owners... Nvidia owners are lost. |
