I'm attempting my first install of Gentoo, on a Netra 240 no less and am having an issue installing SILO.

I'm not new to Linux, but new to Gentoo and Sparcs.

Silo fails to install, here is the final print:

!!! ERROR: sys-boot/silo-1.4.9 failed.
!!! Function mount-boot_mount_boot_partition, Line 51, Exitcode 127
!!! Please mount your /boot partition manually!

Previous to this printout are the only other errors I can find:

>>> Completed installing silo-1.4.9 into /var/tmp/portage/silo-1.4.9/image/

>>> Merging sys-boot/silo-1.4.9 to /
/usr/portage/eclass/mount-boot.eclass: line 46: eerror: command not found
/usr/portage/eclass/mount-boot.eclass: line 47: eerror: command not found
/usr/portage/eclass/mount-boot.eclass: line 48: eerror: command not found
/usr/portage/eclass/mount-boot.eclass: line 49: eerror: command not found
/usr/portage/eclass/mount-boot.eclass: line 50: eerror: command not found

Of course, I attempt to mount /dev/sda1 or /dev/sda1 /boot and the system tells me they are already mounted:
[mntent]: line 35 in /etc/fstab is bad
mount: /dev/sda1 already mounted or /boot busy

Line 35 of fstab appears to be the cdrom entry.

If I try umount:
umount: /dev/sda1: not mounted

So, I'm not sure where to go from here. I've searched the forum, but the closest issue with installing SILO seemed to be related to /dev/zero, which is defined on my system.

Any ideas?

Thank you very much!

Ed

I found the source of the problem: I missed a step in the install.

Unfortunately, even after correcting this, the system would not boot to the kernal.

I eventually installed Solaris 10 just to get the thing working.

I may attempt Gentoo again sometime soon.
