I'm just wondering... I used Mandrake 9.1RC2 before I installed gentoo and it came with some fonts I liked, like babelfish for example. I'm just wondering if there is a font-pack får gentoo to emerge or where to fint babelfish or other fonts for linux?
Thanks,
/Henrik |

| I have often wondered the same thing. I use mozilla in windows and the fonts there are so much nicer than the linux ones. Is there some sort of a font-guide available? I have been using linux for servers for a number of years, but I am just getting into using it as a desktop. Some cleaner fonts would sure look nice! |

I am not sure how much this helps, but there are some nice fonts preinstalled. I find the Luxi fonts to be very attractive, especially with antialiasing enabled in KDE.
Sorry, I don't know much about adding additional fonts, I haven't had much need. But if I had to guess, I would suggest you start with /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/ (especially truetype/).
A quick search of the portage tree reveals several promising ebuilds.
app-text/freefonts
app-text/sharefonts
x11-misc/lfpfonts-fix
x11-misc/lfpfonts-var
x11-misc/xfontselector
If noone posts anything else, I play with these over the weekend and report back. |

I've been trying to get this to work. I've taken the fonts from Mandrake and installed them on my new Gentoo installation. They're still not working correctly. You can check out my thread here: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=41746 _________________ -- Torgeir (www.mp3bil.no) |
