tora 1.3.7/1.3.8 emerge fails

I'm running Gentoo 1.4 rc3 and trying to install Tora. I have oracle 9.2.0 client installed. I set oci8 in my USE flags and I can't get the emerge to work. I tried both 1.3.7 and 1.3.8 and they both choke when they start checking for compilers to use. It goes thru the whole list of compilers and then dies. I'm also using KDE 3.1.1 so Qt 3.1 is installed. Tora 1.3.7 emerged just fine without the oci8 USE flag but I need to use it with Oracle.

forget it. I didnt know that the oracle installer didnt install the Call Interface stuff. installed that and its working.
