ipw3945 wireless drivers

I am new to this i have tried iwlwifi and the old ipw3945 but it seems i ccorrupted my installation so i reinstalled and recompiled kernel and emerged gnome can anyone help me install the ipw3945 driver and tell me how to configure it? also it seems that the Wireless switch i have is software based because it is always off!

Can you post the output of 'emerge --info', 'lspci' and 'lsmod'?
