I'm running an engineering application that requires gcc 2.95.x and gmake 3.74 or higher. Anyone successfully running 2.95 alongside gcc 3.2? If so can you give me some pointers on installing?
I searched the forums and couldn't find anything. Also ran emerge search gcc and found kgcc 2.95 but it is for Sparc. |

My first instinct will be to suggest trying to run the app with gcc 3.2. If the source is available, in most cases it should be compatible. If you really need 2.9x then my suggestion would be to get the source and build it in a separate directory, i.e. something line /opt/gcc-2.95.x. Gcc can be run from non system paths. It will automatically pick things up correctly. This is a safer mechanism than trying to do parallel gcc installs, IMHO. Build gcc is fairly easy.

The app definitely doesn't work in gcc3.2 distros. I'll try downloading source and compiling in /opt2 where I have the app loaded. |

As long as your gcc 3.2 is >= 3.2.1-r6, it can live side-by-side with gcc 2.95.3-r8 or later. You can use gcc-config to switch between profiles. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |
