ok, i followed the alsa guide.

# grep audio /proc/pci:
Code:
Multimedia audio controller: nVidia Corporation nForce MultiMedia audio [Via VT82C686B] (rev 162).
Multimedia audio controller: nVidia Corporation nForce MultiMedia audio [Via VT82C686B] (rev 161).

i emerged and configured everything according to the instructions, using snd-via82xx which, according to alsa, is the correct driver.

when i do this:

# /etc/init.d/alsasound start

i get:
Code:
 * Initialising ALSA....
 * Starting sound driver: snd-via82xx /lib/modules/2.4.20-gaming-r1/kernel/sound/pci/snd-via82xx.o: init_module: No such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg
/lib/modules/2.4.20-gaming-r1/kernel/sound/pci/snd-via82xx.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.20-gaming-r1/kernel/sound/pci/snd-via82xx.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.20-gaming-r1/kernel/sound/pci/snd-via82xx.o: insmod snd-via82xx failed                                                                   [ ok ]

and dmesg gives me:
Code:
VFS: Mounted root (reiserfs filesystem) readonly.
Mounted devfs on /dev
Freeing unused kernel memory: 112k freed
Adding Swap: 506036k swap-space (priority -1)
PCI: Setting latency timer of device 00:04.0 to 64
0: nvidia: loading NVIDIA Linux x86 nvidia.o Kernel Module  1.0-4191  Mon Dec  9 11:49:01 PST 2002
VIA 82xx soundcard not found or device busy
spurious 8259A interrupt: IRQ7.

can anyone help me?? :(
