I have just installed gentoo a couple of weeks ago, and sucessfully emerged KDE 3.1. I recently tried to emerge alsa for my ALS4000 sound card using the command...
Code:
env ALSA_CARDS='als4000' emerge alsa-driver

and get this error...
Code:
!!! ERROR: media-sound/alsa-driver-0.9.0_rc6 failed.
!!! Function src_compile, Line 61, Exitcode 2
!!! Parallel Make Failed

do you guys have any ideas whats up in my case?

I would also like to ask what someone should do in the case of a failed emerge, or what resources are available, other than going to the forums?

Thanks!

I have exactly the same problem although with a different sound card

ALSA_CARDS='intel8x0'

Did you come to a solution since yesterday ?

Adrien.

Can you paste the entire error message. From your description, its hard to figure out whats the problem. There should be more lines output before the make failure.

Thank you for your reply, but i could fix it myself finally.

I think there was some inconsistency in the way I had compiled kernel modules.

I had to test different kernel configurations before i could find one that would boot on my machine and somehow I messed something with the modules,... There was also an update of the gentoo sources,... and well...

I cleaned all modules and recompiled only those I really needed. Then ALSA emerged nicely.

Finally everything (almost) works fine.

Thanks.

Adrien.
