When I finisehd writing an email, and click send, whatever the SMTP server is (either low, high ping, or SMTP checking against spams and virus or not), as long as TB have 'sending message' pop up out, it uses 100% CPU, or any thing left by other apps.
When I receive loads of emails using IMAP, even when filters and antispam are off, TB also uses 99% while downloading messages, whatever it is actually visible on screen or not.
Any time I create a new empty tab, FF also have a large lag, even whe the FF window had just been created, and takes at least 1 or 2s. Then, as long as there is network traffic to download data, CPU stuck to 100%. If Window has few tabs (3 or 4), then creation of 5th tab may take 5s; if window is open since 4 or 6h, may take 10s. For opening the same google first page, the time will of course increase with either number of tabs already open, or age of window.
In all cases, I have the bug even when all extensions are desactivated.
Single P3 800/512kB/256M/133M, ethernet shared connection with hardware firewall.
When switching destops, FF also takes 100% for half or a full second (but not more than 1s) to refresh view.
Gaim and Skype also take long time to start. Problem still persist when only firefox is open and stay the only one application launched.
Other apps like lynx or wget dont seem to use 100%.
All that seems to me badly coded network library that may use for loops instead of usleep(3), maybe a dep of something, but obviously not a dep of 'simple entwork apps'.
All that did not used to happen last year on my other systems. _________________ DEMAINE Benoît-Pierre (aka DoubleHP ) http://www.demaine.info/

it seems strange that it would take 100% of the CPU create a new window, or tab or what ever. but for a split second(or a few seconds!) it might. and that is not anything to worry about too much. Nor is it the reason why your computer may or may not be going fast.
any tools you are using to monitor the cpu take cpu cyckes also. so be mindful.
so the fact that your CPU is going to the max may or may not indicate a problem.
In any case I was not able to reproduce your problems. although all i have is FF. i tryed dl a big file, and it opened up new pages as fast as I could hit the 'T' key nor did switching desktops ever push my cpu to the max....
It could simply be beacase i'm running a pretty lean system though....
I don't know what enviroments you are running, survices or what not.
in otherwords i very much doubt it is poor programing on anyones part. as i never had this problem on any of my computers runnign Gentoo. even on my P3 laptop with .5gig ram. but that system is pretty light weight also.... |

Cintra: wonderfull icone; which keyword use to find more of the same serie in google ?
I am using E.17 compiled around end december 2005. I use gkrelltop to check who uses very much or not, and FF always above E.
I could say that this bug used not to happen begin 2005 (march to july) on my AMD 1G4, but ... E api changes from top to toe every day, and my actual P3 is slower, and less RAM... not sure this comparison would be revelant. I am going to install the same world in an other box, but again, change in hardware may make comparison not revelant (switching to the old famous Alpha Server 4100; that 10year multi CPU may be faster with 3 cpus at 533 and 2GB RAM than my P3 )
In fact, I was wondering if some

could help, but seems -e induce world ...
any way to explicit just deps of FF and TB, so that I re-emerge only those ebuilds ? _________________ DEMAINE Benoît-Pierre (aka DoubleHP ) http://www.demaine.info/
