I used the Alpha Client (without compiling), so I think I am right here |
You are so right
I never used the E-build, not even for the alpha client/. I jsut downloaded it from the SL website to my ~/ and ran it from there. |

I think the is an bug is in the ebuild for the binary client, because if I extraxt the tar.gz by hand it works perfectly. If I install the ebuild it will not work. But the ebuild does the same, so I think there are wrong permissions or like that. I you get trouble try to install the client by hand and not using the ebuild. |

Hi guys, I just want to say: if you think the client is slow because it is alpha and it will run better on windows: probably not. I tried both and there are no speed differences. It runs very slow on both platforms. And that is with a 6800GT, so brace yourself, because it certainly doesn't look like Oblivion. In fact it looks like something from the late 90s... Anyway, it's probably slow because it has to build up a huge world realtime.
I just downloaded the binary, unpacked it and ran it, no problems.
I really don't understand the hype about this "game", I found it truely boring, but to everyone his own . _________________ Anne // Light travels faster than sound. That's why people appear bright until

The video is still there
It's just a lot of fuss about nothing. Maybe there is just no news, so the media will pick up anything...

I headed for the selfcompiled version of SL (ebuilds from matsuu's overlay), at first it did not compile because it won't link against nvidia opengl. Now that i modified the ebuild, it switches to xorg-x11's opengl for the compile and switches back after merging. So i have the source based client running. And it runs a little smoother on my 750mhz athlon then the binary one.
The biggest problem i have now is that i can not teleport anywhere. So i am stuck to the beginners island. Haven't tried the binary client, will do soon. Version is 1.15.0.2 here. (At first i thought it was my use of cflags and ldflags, but even with more conservative settings and without my ldflags i can not teleport)
EDIT: The portlist on holearse.de was incomplete, i had to add tcp port 12043. I had searched the SL wiki before, but did not find their article about a closed port 12043 hindering teleports :/ _________________ Citadel Groupware | Avahi Howto |

| All I get is this. Then nothing is happening. I have no idea what could be wrong. |
