yo, ok so i've got the 2.5.65 kernel working beautifully, my fan behaves well, etc. Now the only thing is, x wont work, and x wont work because nvidia's drivers are not installing properly. i'm running the nvidia geforce4go 420 on the toshiba satellite 2410-s205 (p4m 2ghz), and i did get them to work admirably with the 2.4 kernels.
do not want to sound whiny so ( ) here's my question: i do not have a /lib/modules/2.5.65/modules.dep file. so i can't do any of the things the nvidia readme suggests, or even things that i might want to do, like lsmod. example:

or,

modprobe: Can't open dependencies file /lib/modules/2.5.65/modules.dep (No such file or directory)

Aaand i beleive when the kernel loads up, it does complain: "Failed to calculate dependencies"...
Not sure who to ask for sooo if anyone's got any ideas,  thanks |

I was getting that same error too, now emerging 30Mb of dev source && init-tools
I've compiled to 2.5.66 kernel to allow for module loads/unloads ~ do I need to do a modprobe each time @ boot?

Although I dont have the same problem (module-init-tools helps), I figured this thread could be used to state that I have complete lockups with 2.5.66 and I suspect the nvidia module.
(It is, after all, one of the usual suspects, as I dont get lockups without X, or with the xfree "nv" driver.)
Anyone else here to second that?
EDIT1: just found this: http://www.minion.de/nvidia.html, mentioned in bug #12052
I will try this patch and post results.
EDIT2: false alarm, the ebuild already has that patch and applies it.
