On the other hand it could be nice to provide an ebuild for the real "1.0" QT3 branch only accessible via CVS, as the last 0.9 release is quite old now.

so what will be a good naming scheme for that? or should it be a just a useflag qt3 and qt4 for the new branch?
perhaps calling thee ebuild media-sound/museseq-0.9.9999 for the qt3 branch fits best

Whats your opinion? Thx

no reply, so I'll add my naming scheme: muse-0.9.9999 is the name of the
ebuild which will fetches from the old qt3 aka only fixes, minor feature enhancements and the later to be released 1.0~ version

PostPosted: Tue Dec 02, 2008 2:13 pm    Post subject: ffado compilation Reply with quote

Hello, i'm trying to build libffado, but I have some questions.
The compilation of jack-audio-connection-kit-9999 failed.
I have a new installation of gentoo 2008.0, and the proaudio overlay.

First:
What is the version of libraw1394 which I must use?
Should I use libraw1394-2.0.0 or libraw1394-1.3.0_p20080114?

I have a doubt, when i read this post, about installation of ffado on archlinux:
http://www.ffado.org/?q=node/751: libraw1394-2.0.0 does not work.

Second: Which version of kernel?
My kernel version is: 2.6.24-gentoo-r5.
When i did an emerge -p libffado, the package gentoo-sources-2.6.24-r7 is marked
as a dependence.
Maybe i should install rt-sources kernel, instead, but which one?

I ask you to excuse my poor English.
Thanks
Gouxosor.

Hi guys,

I post here because I get back my new box from repair, they changed the motherboard, the cpu and the ram. The good news is that it work fine, the bad news is that I am doing a new fresh install and many softwares are not still installed.

I get a failure merging jackdmp. I guess that this will be fixed later into the svn. But portage get confused because when merging jackdmp, it perform a fake install of jack-audio-connection-kit. After that, when merging other jack aware programs, emerge fails because it thinks that jack is installed when it is not the case.

It is not a big deal because I can always run "USE="-jack" emerge ..." and update world later when jackdmp will be fixed.

gouxosor, you must be more specific. For the error with jack-audio-connection-kit-9999, please post portage's ouput from the first error message.

For libraw, libraw1394-2.0.0 must be the latest, but if it doesn't work for you, you will have to install the other version.

For the kernel, the best choice is the one that work best for your hardware. Some old hardwares will maybe work better with older kernel and recent hardware will work better with recent kernel. 2.6.26.6-r11 (rt-sources) work fine with my asus m3a32-mvp deluxe box. I don't have tried other kernel with it.

For the choice rt-sources against gentoo-sources, it depend of what you want to do. rt-sources will perform better on heavily loaded sound system, but gentoo-sources with a rlimits aware version of pam can perfom good for many peoples. About the stability issues, rt-sources can be very reliable, most stability problems with it are coming from buggy hardware or bad IRQ configuration.

Hi Dominique, and thanks for your answer.
I finaly solve my problem. I haven't install dbus-python. Now it's work. I emerge dbus-python before emerging jack.
I try to compile my own kernel, but finaly i use a gentoo-sources, it is not a realtime (2.6.24-gentoo-r5), but qjackctl accept reatime with 4ms of latency.
I did some optimization (rtirq, pam...)
Now i try to emerge some programs but i have sometime a problem of portage:
Unknown (getfetchlist(): 'media-sound/seq24-0.9.0' has unsupported EAPI: '2')
the same for ardour3
I don't know if i should emerge a new version of portage (i use 2.1.4.5). I have read that it will solve my probleme, but I am afraid that it puts mess.

For seq24, latest ardour etc, you will have to install portage 2.1.6 at least.

The jackd 9999 ebuild is currently a bit messy, but the "stable" 0.116.1 works fine here.

Hi,
I emerge portage from 2.1.4.5 to 2.1.6_rc3.
Now i can install seq24 and ardour 2.7. I don't try to install ardour3, and all works fine.
Thanks for your response.

I don't know if it's the right place (I've posted this on various forum but I don't get any relevant information) but I really don't know why there's no ardour version wich works with jack-0.116.1, it can't connect to the server and always try to launch a new instance and fail (even if it was already started). And I can run Hydrogen only if jack has been run as root, mplayer detect jack-server only if I force the usage of jack with --ao jack. Other applications seems to works well.
For information i use portage 2.2_rc1 with the kernel version 2.6.27-gentoo-r4
Does any-one here have any idea?

For ardour I can confirum this with ardour3 branch builds. They will not start if jack is running in realtime (works fine without)
Anyways ardour 2.7.1, hydrogen and all the rest works fine.

Can you provide any console output? I.e. ardour errors, jackd logs etc.
Did you try without realtime?

We definately need more info :)

2) JACK is running as another user.

Please consider the possibilities, and perhaps try different parameters.

Hm, nothing strange in there.

Could you please post the jack log from the startup onwards (qjackctl -> messages)
And if you are using jack-audio-connection-kit from pro-audio overlay, which useflags do you have enabled?

Okay. That could be some problem with jackdbus.
Try to compile it with USE="-dbus", or just killall -9 jackdbus, start jack normally, and see if helps.

I recompile jack without dbus USE-flag (and ardour also) and no jackdbus was running (I even stoped dbus deamon)
but nothing seems to have changed here...

I repost here just to say that the issue seems coming from alsa, yesterday morning alsa came back to default configuration (saying chipset Realtek AL268, I've an ICH8 Family one). So may be snd_hda_intel on kernel 2.6.27 fault (I should update from r4 to r7 to see if it change something, but it can also break it)
Even after reboots all works fine, but I don't know how many times it will...

It should work now. The DEPEND - RDEPEND was screwed into the ebuild. You may have to mask xerces-c into /etc/portage/package.mask:
Code:
>=dev-libs/xerces-c-2.8
.

The proaudio bugtracker sign-up page isn't working for me and this isn't a big deal so I'll just say it here.

The location of the source for the media-sound/xmms2tray ebuild has changed, here is the proper line:
SRC_URI="http://code.jollybox.de/pub/xmms2tray/xmms2tray-${PV}.tar.gz"

On a related note, I just gave a go of altering the ebuild from 0.4-r2 to 0.5, only changing the filename, and everything seems to be working fine. I am using the live ebuild of xmms2 though, so the minimum version requirement for 0.5 is probably different.

Anyone with account there, it'd be helpful to the maintainers if you could relay this information. Thanks.
