|
|
I emerged world a week ago and it broke digikam as described in
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-418360.html
(It may be unrelated but I also lost all my png icons in kmenu and kicker). Today I emerged world again and it upgraded digikam to 0.7.4- I still don't see any thumbnails in digikam but now there's a different error:
| Code: | kio (KMimeType): WARNING: KServiceType::offers : servicetype KIPI/Plugin not found
kio (KMimeType): WARNING: KServiceType::offers : servicetype Digikam/ImagePlugin not found |
Someone must have some idea what this indicates? |

Did you also emerge kipi-plugins and digikamimageplugins? _________________ Gentoo (64 bits) on AMD64 X2 4400+, MSI K8T Neo2-FIR, 2 Gb RAM, 320 + 160 Gb SATA, nVidia Geforce 6600 |

Yep, several times. Just this morning I emerged for probably the seventh time:
media-libs/libexif
media-libs/libkexif
media-libs/libkipi
media-plugins/kipi-plugins
media-plugins/digikamimageplugins
media-gfx/digikam
No change. Thanks for trying to help |

Just guessing: Perhaps some of these programs have entries for 'unstable' versions in your /etc/portage/package.keywords (i.e. mixing stable with unstable)? Do you have some dangerous CFLAGS?
(Btw: I have 'unstable' digikam 0.8.0 installed with all its dependencies and it works fine here.) _________________ Gentoo (64 bits) on AMD64 X2 4400+, MSI K8T Neo2-FIR, 2 Gb RAM, 320 + 160 Gb SATA, nVidia Geforce 6600 |

I was using 0.8.0 when I emerged world a week ago- I moved back to stable in an attempt to fix the problem. I just re-emerged 0.8.0 and yes, same errors plus a few more:
| Code: | kio (KMimeType): WARNING: KServiceType::offers : servicetype KIPI/Plugin not found
kio (KMimeType): WARNING: KServiceType::offers : servicetype Digikam/ImagePlugin not found
digikam: ERROR: : couldn't create slave : Unable to create io-slave:
klauncher said: Unknown protocol 'digikamdates'.
digikam:
digikam: WARNING: [void AlbumManager::slotResult(KIO::Job*)] Failed to list dates
digikam: ERROR: : couldn't create slave : Unable to create io-slave:
klauncher said: Unknown protocol 'digikamalbums'.

I only have a few ~x86 and I don't think any of them were updated a week ago. |

Maybe the problem is not with digikam, but somewhere else. What Kde version are you using? (I use the stable 3.4.3 on AMD64.) Did you try to re-emerge kdebase-kioslaves, since it seems to be a io-slave-problem? _________________ Gentoo (64 bits) on AMD64 X2 4400+, MSI K8T Neo2-FIR, 2 Gb RAM, 320 + 160 Gb SATA, nVidia Geforce 6600 |

Agreed, the problem is probably somewhere other than digikam- the fact that all my png icons disappeared from kmenu and kicker with the same emerge world is suspicious. Digikam is just the most obvious symptom, since it is completely broken.
I'm using kde 3.4.3. Currently I'm using everything stable except what is absolutely necessary (there were a few more a week ago but I removed them in an attempt to fix the problem):
| Code: | app-admin/eselect-opengl ~x86
app-admin/eselect ~x86
app-emulation/vmware-workstation ~x86
app-portage/gentoolkit ~x86
dev-java/java-sdk-docs ~x86
dev-java/sun-jdk ~x86
dev-libs/libebml ~x86
media-libs/libmatroska ~x86
media-libs/x264-svn ~x86
media-sound/nforce-audio ~x86
media-video/nvidia-kernel ~x86
media-video/nvidia-glx ~x86
media-video/nvidia-settings ~x86
sys-libs/libstdc++-v3 ~x86 |
From looking at the dates in my emerge.log, the package/s that caused this must have been among the following:
| Code: | app-admin/eselect-1.0_rc2
app-admin/eselect-opengl-1.0.3
app-antivirus/clamav-0.87.1
app-cdr/k3b-0.12.8

My only other idea is to try emerge -e world, although I am not at all confident that will do anything. |

I also had this problem. Digikam started ok but when I tried to add some files, it says:
| Code: |
digikam: ERROR: : couldn't create slave : Unable to create io-slave:
klauncher said: Unknown protocol 'digikamalbums'.
|
Or something like that.
I fixed this compilling the cvs version from http://www.digikam.org with the --prefix=yourkdedir.
Hope this help. |

| For the record, I just figured this out- apparently it's because I was using tcsh instead of bash. I chsh to bash and now digikam works. Hope this helps someone else. |

hm I also use tcsh. but that just makes me wonder if it is something profile / environment related. tried switching to bash but it did not help. will try to track down if I have any extraneous / wrong env settings that could be doing this. (already made sure KDEDIRS is correct, etc.)
the weird thing is, even tho kbuildsycoca still spits out so many errors vs. mimetype, if I run it from the command line I can get kaffeine and ktorrent working properly again. but still not digikam. and I still have to re-run kbuildsycoca every time I close kde session and start a new one.... _________________ I've got the brain, I'm insane, you can't stop the power |

I also upgraded to KDE 3.5.2 this morning but that may be unrelated (I don't know what you're using). It was only several hours and reboots later that I chsh'ed to bash and that immediately fixed the problem.
I still have mimetype warnings when I run kbuildsycoca, mostly about realplay but those were there before.
The problem is reproducible- if I chsh back to tcsh, the png icons in kmenu and kicker disappear and when I run digikam I get the 100's of errors about io-slave and hung kio_file processes, one for every photo thumbnail. |

so I finally got sick of not being able to use digikam, and chsh to bash as you suggested. and of course everything works normally now. grar!!!
I compared the env between bash and tcsh and every variable is exactly the same. so wtf can be causing this difference? something in the profile I'm sure, but what??!?
well anyway, I set konsole to run tcsh -l. so it's not so bad. and when I am on the console I can just type in "tcsh". whee.
I just hate the fact that none of us could find an explanation for this (and like many of you no doubt, I have really searched and searched).
I already use kubuntu for my g3 powerbook (too painful for gentoo) ... it's not bad, maybe I will switch my desktop to it ^_^ _________________ I've got the brain, I'm insane, you can't stop the power |

| Great! Yeah, I spent a long time trying to figure it out. I guess no one uses tcsh. |

You people have done a good job identifying tcsh as being part of the problem. I don't think I would've guessed that.
Too bad none of you bothered to file a bug report (did you?). Anyway, I just filed one. |
