Updated the SVN ebuild and forum post. This will solve the problems with the changed default mod filename and old datafiles introduced and hopefully make installing Spring easier again.

If you haven't updated Spring since the ebuild broke, there's been a few interesting changes in the meantime, like the nice new water effects or the additional fixes to the networking code...

BTW -since a few people have asked about this on IRC: There's a new GUI for Spring in the works. Of course, I personally am just as excited by other upcoming changes, like new "random" explosions and such...

i've just updated with the latest ebuild, but it seems that a file is missing :

Svn is in head of taspring-linux-data-0.71b1.tar.bz2 atm

To solve the problem of missing file (its in the svn checkout). Run the following command

cp /usr/portage/distfiles/svn-src/taspring-linux-svn/trunk/game/gamedata/explosion_alias.tdf /usr/share/games/taspring-linux-svn/gamedata/
chown root:games /usr/share/games/taspring-linux-svn/gamedata/explosion_alias.tdf

the files from https://developer.berlios.de/project/showfiles.php?group_id=4358 isn't working for me.
but the files from http://spring.openhost.dk/ worked fine. but they arent the latest.

Maybe an svn ebuild based on the tags/taspring_0.72b1/ would be better than one based on trunk/, at least more stable.

The Spring team is really doing a great and really active job in these last months. Can't wait to see the 1.0 roadmap done and working.

(too bad I need something better than a Geforce 2 to actually try it :P)

How is the current code off trunk/ unstable ??

U can check the svn changes/logs off http://svn.berlios.de/wsvn/taspring-linux/?op=log&sc=1


Main changes in ebuild recently where support for omni with use flag
Copy the missing file explosion_alias.tdf from svn
Fixed ebuild so it would setup the AI configs (rewrote this in -r3 thus breaking NTAI bot slighty & fixed JCAI bot)
Also in -r3. If omni flag is set. it adds Desktop Icon for omni & /usr/games/bin/taspring-omni so easier to run.


Hopefully have fixed -r3 out in awhile, in the meantime

To fix NTAI bot for -r3 (if its broke) type
mkdir /usr/share/games/taspring-linux-svn/aidll/globalai/NTAI/Logs
mkdir /usr/share/games/taspring-linux-svn/aidll/globalai/NTAI/mexdebug
mkdir /usr/share/games/taspring-linux-svn/aidll/globalai/NTAI/MexData
chown root:games -R /usr/share/games/taspring-linux-svn/aidll/globalai/NTAI
chmod g+w -R /usr/share/games/taspring-linux-svn/aidll/globalai/NTAI

A first test showed no problems on amd64 with an ATI card. Pretty good looking I would say.

Only major problem:

How/when can I run the game in fullscreen?
Editing the config doesn't seem to do anything good :?

CWest whats u your /home/<user>/.springrc like ?
& u got Fullscreen = 1 ?

also what command u using to run spring ? just spring i.e not spring -w
if its desktop icon ignore last question :P

edit: also if u got fullscreen but game = small box with black border around. increase your X Y resolution in your config check wiki link for more details on ot

Might simply be my WM dough (FVWM ... perhaps stop controling the taspring-windows? ^^)

using both the ebuild and manual svn versions both give me this error:

I just got the ebuild off this forum, installed fine, but when I try to start it I recieve the following error. Shouldn't it just be /usr/share/games/taspring-svn, the directory exists, but the spring conf file or something must be wrong (I dunno tho, any suggestions?)

next version of ebuild wont need this step as it will let gentoo handle /etc/spring/datadir :D

Update u can emerge latest svn & it works. Only problem atm is NTAI v9 bot havin some problems gettin to work right in linux atm :/
If u play against bots use the following since that svn revision has NTAI 7.5 that works ok

Some notes for changes in & svn.

AAI Bot in svn == very nice AI

Multi Datadirs i.e we dont need the hack for given everyone permission to taspring datadir.
i.e
Read-Only datadir = /usr/share/games/taspring-linux-svn
Read-Write datadir = ~/.spring (i.e where user puts the maps / mods they download

I also took liberaty in add spring-gui use-flag for my pet project, check on taspring forums to see some screenshots

Just got taspring-linux-svn-0.72-r2 working. This game is absolutely GORGEOUS. You and your devs have done a great job so far. Keep up the great work!

Just wondering, is this game playable already on linux ? Could e.g. a nice multiplayer game be done ?

I found the script selection menu a little confusing.

I second that question :? I can't find any instrustions of how to actually load up an AI or anything... and the spring-gui crashes. Shame really, the graphics are sweet.

Yes multiplayer is possible on linux if using same svn version. Only linux versus linux though.
They need to switch to different compiler for windows version & wont be doing till after next release.

And it helps to post what errors u got from spring-gui @ spring-gui thread in http://taspring.clan-sy.com/phpbb/viewforum.php?f=20
Note last bug fixed was about 20 minutes ago. So
