It worked . I can play now , but when i start 'spring' I get a strange menu ? Not like a normal RTS game like : LAN , mulitplayer , solo mode , options ? |

Yes, that's the only thing that's built into spring and probably mostly used in "testing". But there's also a more player-friendly external "game starter" aka lobby. Add unity-lobby to Spring's USE-flags, re-emerge and start Spring through unity-lobby instead. |

Hello,
I've try to install spring 0.74b1 with Rad ebuilds, but spring doesn't work
When i launch ./spring it says:
| Quote: | | "Warning: Missing charsets in String to FontSet conversion" What is that ? |
The game starts, i've try to do an "Air combat test", then i see i've only one mod called : NanoBlobs. So, lets go with NanoBlobs : The game crashed and return to X :
| Quote: | | "Couldn't find unittype ARMHAWK" | o_O
ok.. I start ./spring-omni and there is lots of errors :
| Quote: | "/usr/lib64/python2.4/site-packages/wx-2.6-gtk2-unicode/wx/_core.py:13155: UserWarning: wxPython/wxWidgets release number mismatch
warnings.warn("wxPython/wxWidgets release number mismatch")"
( I join a channel, and try to join a game : )
"Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/share/games/spring/omni/gui_lobby.py", line 460, in OnSelectBattle
self.server.joinBattle(event.GetIndex())
File "/usr/share/games/spring/omni/server.py", line 270, in joinBattle
os.chdir(config.Read("/Spring/DataDirectory"))
OSError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/usr/local/games/taspring'" |
Huh ?
Ta spring never work correctly on my Gentoo|Linux :s
Anyone can help me plz ?
Thanks, and sorry for my bad english |

@evert_ Currently working on fresh gentoo install & cant checkout from taspring till Tuesday. Damn 7 working days to get broadband download limit upgraded :/
But if u type unity-lobby --help ( Not sure on spelling for it, try ls /usr/games/bin to check for it ) in console
There should be a switch for Setup.
Type unity-lobby <insert switch for Setup>
Make a new profile and leave datadir blank.
Or just rm -rv ~/.unity-lobby
Make a new profile and leave datadir blank
Over weekend i try and get around to coding a setup wizard with error checking that user typed in a correct value / directory exists.
@Cremuss The Air Combat Script is basicly a script that devs use as a test. Its hardcoded for XTA mod believe its for an older release aswell. Since latest changed around unit names to a standard naming scheme
As for omni try running etc-update / dispatch-conf before hand. Note omni hasnt been worked on for awhile now. |

| I'm pretty sure leaving the field blank also didn't work for me... Try to enter "/usr/share/games/spring" as datadir if you want to use unity-lobby. |

Yeah, I had the same. I looked for some information everywhere I could on the web, I asked some gamers... NOTHING. Even under windows I had the same error.
Finally, I did solve the problem.
It seems like the total annihilation 'original' data hasn't been included in the last version of spring (don't ask.... I can't explain it). So I found & installed an archive including those files. However I'm really sorry I can't find any link :-(
But this is the answer, think about it. Also think about installing mods such as XTA, AA, etc... Because a lot of the starting scripts need it to run. |

The Starting Scripts i.e Air Combat are really just for showing off / testing Spring
They are basicly hardcoded for an older XTA release, and werent tested at last minute before release with bundled XTA mod.
XTA is no longer bundled with Linux releases due to IP issues if user doesnt own Original Total Anihalition.
Nanoblobs is now bundled with Linux releases as it doesnt have this problem. Just no AI that runs it atm :/
U can download the other mods & install them i.e AA etc that work with AI's
To run spring u dont need the Original Total Anihallition DATA |

| I can understand this, no matter, but.... Wait a minute, this is not total annihilation files, what I said is quite confusing (sorry), but it's 2 files called "tacontent_v2.sdz" and "tatextures_v062.sdz" (I guess, actually I don't remember well) in the "base" subdir which I needed. Without those files I couldn't launch any game / script and they are NOT given with any version, full-gpl or not, linux or windows version (0.74b1). |

| Hollowsoul, if I want to play OTA with someone on Ubuntu, what files do we need? We both legally own TA and have the original CDs. |

I´m trying to get unity lobby to work but with no succes:
first I got:
| Code: | File "/usr/share/games/spring/UnityLobby/client/main.py", line 231, in ?
status_icon = status_icon(options.profile)
File "/usr/share/games/spring/UnityLobby/client/main.py", line 97, in __init__
self.register_iconsets([('unitylobby-bot', bot_image_location)])
File "/usr/share/games/spring/UnityLobby/client/main.py", line 220, in register_iconsets
pixbuf = gtk.gdk.pixbuf_new_from_file(file)
gobject.GError: Failed to open file '/home/zubzub/spring_0.74b3/UnityLobby/resources/status/bot.svg': No such file or directory
|
so I made a symlink, but then I got:
| Code: | File "/usr/share/games/spring/UnityLobby/client/main.py", line 231, in ?
status_icon = status_icon(options.profile)
File "/usr/share/games/spring/UnityLobby/client/main.py", line 97, in __init__
self.register_iconsets([('unitylobby-bot', bot_image_location)])
File "/usr/share/games/spring/UnityLobby/client/main.py", line 220, in register_iconsets
pixbuf = gtk.gdk.pixbuf_new_from_file(file)
gobject.GError: Couldn't recognize the image file format for file '/home/zubzub/spring_0.74b3/UnityLobby/resources/status/bot.svg' |
svg is in my use flags...

Hello. I recently wanted to try out this game, and noticed that the overlay on the spring website (http://springrts.com/wiki/Gentoo_install) doesn't seem to exist/work anymore as the overlay.xml file doesn't have any useful content. Anyone around here know anything about this? |

The overlay on the Spring website works fine for me (though the page layout puts the menu over the code). Spring is an awesome game!

layman -f -a Spring -o http://springrts.com/dl/overlays.xml

Copying your command works fine.
Not sure what I did wrong previously. Thanks |

And now it doesn't work again...

Perhaps I've just broken my layman somehow? Or am I doing something else completely wrong? |
