The pre-packaged files (the files you have access to when you register) have CD-Key checking capabilities. (So you dont have to use cracks for your games). That is the only difference I know of for sure, but they also tend to be more stable and run better than the cvs snapshots. _________________ the linux gaming guy! |

I think you don't even need to bother with RPM, subscribers should have also access to a ".tgz"-file, and for that one there is the ebuild "winex-transgaming" then, you just have to put the file into distfiles before. |

I have the paid version of WineX in RPM format and installing it with rpm -i --no-deps works just fine. For some reason 2.0-1 works a whole lot better than 2.1-1 and up. I get screwy sound problems with higher than 2.0 - could be my specfic sound setup (onboard sound.. eh, Im cheep). Otherwise it works perfectly, especially if used with the gaming-sources kernel. |

Several other of my gentoo friends and I also install from the rpm packages... Trust me, the pre-packaged winex does run a lot better. _________________ the linux gaming guy! |
