|
|
I know this is a little bit off topic, but the Blackdown JDK 1.4.1 is finally out and it seems that this one is the first JDK with a decent Linux webstart integration. The Webstart from the Blackdown JDK finally is able to generate icons for the KDE and Gnome desktop like its windows counterpart has been doing for ages. Besides that the speed seems to be significantly higher than the Sun JDK 1.4.x
If you are interested in Java desktop applications give the Blackdown JDK and Webstart a shot. |

Here's some more information:
From the README, it appears that we finally have a gcc 3.2 compatible java plugin (without having to compile it from scratch!)
Quote: | Notes for ix86 Version:
======================
The ix86 Version is available in two flavors: One built with
gcc-2.95.4 and one built with gcc-3.2.1. (Once most distributions
build Mozilla with gcc-3.2 or newer we will stop making gcc-2.95
builds.)
* Requirements
- i586 compatible system
- glibc-2.2.5 or newer
- kernel 2.4.18 or newer
- XFree 4.1 or newer
- libstdc++ from gcc-3.2 or newer (only needed for the gcc-3.2 Java build)
- Mozilla 1.0 or newer built with gcc-2.95 or gcc-3.2 depending
on which Java build you use (needed only for the Java Plug-In) |

Moving to Gentoo Chat from Desktop Environments since it's not a support question. _________________ "An empty head is not really empty; it is stuffed with rubbish. Hence the difficulty of forcing anything into an empty head."

Does upgrading blackdown-jdk require reemerging openoffice?

Does this mean that I can remove sun-jdk and sun-j2sdk and load blackdown 1.4.1 and I will get the mozilla plugin, webstart and alll that good stuff. Right now after compiling sun-jdk and loading sun-j2sdk my mozilla 1.2.1 has the java plug-in but it crashes on every page with a java applet on it. Any help would be appreciated. |
