From wiki.gp2x.org
The GP2X is a Linux-based handheld game console and media player, designed & manufactured by the South Korean company, GamePark Holdings (GPH). GPH is comprised of the same design team that created the GP32 handheld console, which became popular among homebrew and emulation circles worldwide.
What distinguishes the GP2X from other handhelds (such as the Sony PSP or Nintendo DS) is that it is designed to be open and easily developed for by anyone:
* The development software is free, open source software
* It uses the standard SD media card for storage
* Programs and data can be easily transferred to it via USB

I will give you some first impressions the moment it arrives here, hopefully before the weekend, if gbax.com wills it. _________________ Finally, in conclusion, I shall say only this |

I preordered a GP2X in the beginning of october, and got it a couple of days ago. Had a few issues getting the USB connection working, so I had to use the SD-card reader in my laptop to upgrade the GP2X firmware. Other than that it's very cool. First thing to do was installing frodo and completing Last Ninja 2. Nice
Now I'm wondering how long it will take before an ebuild is available for the SDK. Should be fun to play with - it uses a port of SDL, so it should be possible to write games that run without any modification (apart from recompiling) on both windows, Linux and the GP2X _________________ Mikkel Holm Olsen

I heard that the first models have huge issues with hardware and firmware, and Lik-Sang isn't selling the device anymore before Gamepark Holdings fixes it. Are these all just rumors? _________________ Jouni Hätinen

Its true, but almost everything is do to the early firmware. A lot of people forget that the official release is in January 2006, not November 2005.
GPH is also setting up a recall for units that have buggered up LCD displays. More news about that recall should be out on December 5th. I give credit to GPH for admitting the the 2X isn't perfect yet, and giving pre orderers the chance to get fixed units. _________________ "The X server has to be the biggest program I've ever seen that doesn't do anything for you."
