Using the stable blackdown-jdk (1.4.1-r1) I attempted to compile jboss (which is masked ~sparc) and all it's dependancies (which are not).
During the compile of the 10-15 java packages one failed with a JVM error - I thought that was odd so I just tried again with "emerge jboss" and it picked up where it left off, sucessfully compiling the previously offending package.
Then, arriving at the jboss package itself I had a number of failures (3-4) so I wrote a little script which ran "emerge jboss" until it got a return code of 0, and sure enough it compiled it (eventually - and I don't know how many goes it took!).
Has anyone else experienced these somewhat "random" JVM errors? (Unfortunately I don't have access to the machine from here so I can't post the actual errors - but if it will help anyone I can get the error files). |

Yes, the JVM isn't quite stable on Linux/SPARC and we're probably dropping it in the near future since it's stopping us from upgrading toolchain stuff like glibc.
Try ditching the sandbox, that usually helps a bit though it's not a nice solution (FEATURES="-sandbox -usersandbox"). _________________ Gustavo Zacarias

Just to complete the thread I tried to start up jboss twice and both times it died. I'm not really surprised given the trouble I had building it...
If anyone's interested I'm happy to post the errors.
As an aside since this package has been marked as "~sparc" does that mean that someone somewhere has actually gotten it to work? Or is "~" just given to all packages which aren't stable? |
