I'm looking for something that has a graphical front end so I can have playlists and add/remove songs from the console. I found some good mpg123 frontends on freshmeat...I specifically liked amf...but it's not in portage :(

Any other options? I couldn't get mpd to get any songs added, and mp3blaster looked good, but I couldn;t get it to work right.

Try harder with mpd, it handles large music libraries quite well and has tons of frontends. Mpdsvn can also play back mpc, flac and some other stuff.. though they might have been added to the mainstream version as well.

Try using the svn version, which works better than the standard version. The svn version is also in portage.
Change the location of your media in /etc/mpd.conf, and issue '# mpd --create-db' as user mpd, or create a group for this

best of the best :D try it (media-sound/moc); alpha ver. seems to be also quite stable and it has better playlist / manager layout (still not in portage - must download from http://moc.daper.net/ and compile - but it easy)

Moc is good, I just can't figure out how to get it to play fils that are within another directory. Because I store my music like this

/music/BandName/AlbumName/songs.mp3

so when I tell it to do/music/ it won't shuffle or skip to songs within the other directories.

You can also checkout Ampache (http://www.ampache.org/) which catalogs your music using MySQL and uses a PHP frontend, it can stream your music directly into MPD/IceCast and/or XMMS. Works also with Windows (Winamp, Windows Media Player (I thought) etc.) and I also thought Mac could do it, as long as the program can accept m3u, pls, or whatever you chose you output (if not using MPD/IceCast)
