I am trying to emerge alien, I like this program to convert packages from rpm to another, but I cannot get it. It tries to connect to various site but is unable to do so and then stops the emerge process.
I need to unpack ATI's radeon drivers, which come in the rpm format. Is there a file that I need to edit to add more places for emerge to try and connect to......and can I find a list of what sites have what source!?!
Sorry, I am new to the gentoo game....and not that familiar with how emerge works |

What specifically are the errors? Please post output if possible.
If the problem is that you cannot connect to a mirror. You can add mirrors to your /etc/make.conf as so:
Code: | GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp://ftp.gtlib.cc.gatech.edu/pub/gentoo
ftp://ftp.oregonstate.edu/pub/gentoo
http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo"
|
Also, I'm going to go on the hunch that you can get those ATI drivers from a gentoo ebuild. I have nvidia so can't be sure, but search around I'm sure you'll find something.

I fixed the emerge problem....my roomate unplugged the router argh...I do not know why he did it, but I am mad at him
I have another question. I got the alien to work and was able to convert my ati package....and it work well. I installed the driver, and cannot get x to start. This is b.c the version of XFree I got is 4.3.0 ... .. . and the drivers do not work with that version. How can I uninstall 4.3.0 and get a version of 4.2.XXX. I need to use the ATI driver and not the Xfree b.c the xfree does not have 3d support for my videocard! Thanks for the help! |
