Hi!
I'm running a Sun Blade 2000 with an XVR-500 graphics card. Xorg is not working with that card so I wonder wheter it's possible to install any PCI graphics controller into the machine.

Mostly yes, said card should have to work too.
We have a listing for non-sun hardware on sun linux/sparc machines -> http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/base/sparc/hwlist.xml
Updates are welcome, either for working or non-working stuff. _________________ Gustavo Zacarias

With a Matrox Millennium II the system does not boot. I installed the Matrox (for X) in combination with the XVR-500 (booting and text console). Now the system comes up.
I configured Xorg this way:
Code: |
Section "Device"
Identifier "Card0"
Driver "mga"
VendorName "Matrox Graphics, Inc."
BoardName "MGA 2164W [Millennium II]"
BusID "PCI:0:3:0"
EndSection
|
When I run startx, the system crashes with the following errors:
Code: |

I have noticed with an XVR-100 that the kernel will panic if it is in the 32 bit PCI slot (bottom-most PCI slot), even using the fbdev driver. As this is the only PCI slot in PCI domain 00, it currently causes problems with Xorg because its not correctly detecting the other PCI domain (0001). Hoping we'll have a fix for this soon. |
