Hi all.
I had to make some changes to my system in the last time so I nstalled a whole new gentoo2005.1...
After emerging nvidia-kernel-1.0.6629-r4 and the corresponding nvidia-glx, doing opengl-update and a successful modprobe
my System froze after restarting the X-Server...
I tried with all the drivers in portage, it's mostly the same but with nvidia-kernel-1.0.7676-r1 it just dies with this error:
(II) LoadModule: "nvidia"
(WW) Warning, couldn't open module nvidia
(II) UnloadModule: "nvidia"
(EE) Failed to load module "nvidia" (module does not exist, 0)
(II) LoadModule: "mouse"
(II) Loading /usr/lib64/modules/input/mouse_drv.o
(II) Module mouse: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
compiled for 6.8.2, module version = 1.0.0
Module class: X.Org XInput Driver
ABI class: X.Org XInput driver, version 0.4
(II) LoadModule: "kbd"
(II) Loading /usr/lib64/modules/input/kbd_drv.o
(II) Module kbd: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
compiled for 6.8.2, module version = 1.0.0
Module class: X.Org XInput Driver
ABI class: X.Org XInput driver, version 0.4
(EE) No drivers available.
Fatal server error:
no screens found
My xorg.conf works, I know this as I use it on several Systems, before it worked with an GeForce4000MX on the System...
The video card also works with windows XP64.
I'm totally stuck with this, so if anyone has the same or a similar problem and the solution or just a suggestion...
Thanks

HI again.
It was all about the Kernel it seems... I downgraded to 2.6.12-r10 and nvidia-kernel-1.0-6629...
now it works again.
A Bug has been filed: https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=111017 and there are others similar to this one.
Maybe this helps: the Problem was a missing symlink from: /usr/lib/modules/drivers/nvidia_drv.o to /usr/X11R6/lib64/modules/drivers/nvidia_drv.o...
got it from this report: https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=82595
But this freezes my System again...
Didn't add "solved" to this as the solution is ugly
Regards

You are right, it is this bug. I just posted in another thread as to how I fixed this last night. I hope it helps you too. |
