emerge broken: how do I fix this?

Hi everyone,

Recently, my brother decided to reboot my computer while I was in the middle of an emerge -u world.

Not good. Lots of stuff seems to be broken, and I am at a bit of a loss as to how to go about fixing it.

The first thing is that emerge will not run, and exits with the following error:

-bash: /usr/bin/emerge: cannot execute binary file

What is going on? Thanks.

did you try?:

Put a stage X tarball in your root directory and extract it. Emerge should work after that.
