I have an old epson stylus 640, which i have connected to the parallel port of my laptop.
If I modprobe lp, then /dev/lp0 appears, and I can copy a text file to /dev/lp0 and have it print.
But getting it working under cups is more difficult. It appears to be configured, but when I print a test page, the printer starts off in a happy mode, but only for the first 10mm or so. After this, it pauses, and every 100 secs or so, it adds some ink to the border of the test page, then pauses, then goes over this area again, and so on.
I have no idea what is happening.
I also tried printing from kwrite, here the printer does nothing.
Here's the output from ps -ef:

Can anyone help. Printing is the most difficult thing I have found under Linux, and particularly under Gentoo. _________________ .sig: access denied |
