Masking a single package

I'm trying to compile my machine with unstable set, but the latest version of mysql won't seem to compile properly.

how do i mask this one package (so emerge gets the stable version) without masking the rest of the unstable ones?

You might want to read this if you havn't already. It think the answer to your question is packages.mask, but I havn't tried that for myself.
