It's NOT everything I want: no reiser4

Still if it wasn't for reiser4 (which is a MUST for me, love that file system, I get power outages a lot in my area and have NEVER lost or corrupted any files) I would be quite tempted to try it as the rest seems pretty interesting :)

Then again maybe I'll patch reiser4 in myself and give it a whirl 8)

Reiser4 has given me headaches in the past, I myself prefer ext3 w/ dir_index.

Sounds good. With noatime and journal=writeback it's even better too (writeback is the journalling mode used by reiserfs by default so it journals less information and does less work - hence it's also slightly less safe).

Almost:

Code: Select all

noatime,data=writeback
but you can just set the journal to defaulting writeback journalling using tune2fs - this is all recommended in http://ck.kolivas.org/audio_hints.txt

Reiser4 goes against what we do when we patch our kernel for performance, we are trying to improve latency, and interactivity. Reiser4 does the opposite. If you want Reiser4, feel free to patch it in.

Reiser4 only does that if you use it ;)
If you dont compile it, it doesnt :)

lazx888, there's countless (read: too many) ck based patchsets available, so give one of the others a try. I'll be getting a 2.6.14-rc5 archck out tonight hopefully.

I'll think about putting Reiser4 in the next version, I just personally didn't need it and didn't patch it in.

Thanks. I'll do that. I used Reiser4 nearly a year ago, and lost several gigs of data. It would be like giving a suicidal maniac a loaded gun in my opinion.
