Is there anything I can do to my portage tree to let net-snmp meet a dependancy requirement for ucd-snmp?
I have net-snmp installed, which as far as I recall is effectively version 5 of ucd-snmp, only renamed, and is pretty much compatible. If I try to install various network management packages which have a dependancy of ucd-snmp, it wants to install that despite having net-snmp already installed, and will probably overwrite net-snmp's files with the older version... (note, I haven't actually tried it because I don't want to mess up this install just yet!)
I don't particularly want to just edit the ebuild files because an emerge rsync will just correct them again.
Anyone got any suggestions or should I just give in and put the old version on?
Cheers,
Steve. |

To answer my own question, I've found that adding
Code: | net-analyzer/ucd-snmp net-analyzer/net-snmp |
to /var/cache/edb/virtuals seems to do the trick. Is this going to do anything nasty or is it not a good idea to mess with those files?
