Hallo,

I want to make my LS 120 Floppy drive work under Linux, but it didn't work.
It hangs on the first IDE-cable so it is /dev/hda but when I want to
mount the drive I became the failure:

root@XViper floe-de # mount /dev/hda /mnt/floppy
mount: special device /dev/hda does not exist

What can I do ?

P.S: Sorry, my english is not the best, my main language is german, but
bye this problem I need special help :o

Hello. First of all, I have not tried the following instructions myself but thought I'd make the suggestion anyway. In kernel, enable ATA/IDE/MFM/RLL support > IDE, ATA and ATAPI Block devices > Include IDE/ATAPI FLOPPY support and then read the help on that item. Part of it says "The LS-120 and the IDE/ATAPI Iomega ZIP drive are also supported by this driver". Then booting off the newly compiled kernel you'd have to mount it as /dev/hdX where X is your drive letter (check boot messages). Good luck.

Thanks but this Module is already installed, so that doesn't work.
I've read a lot of things to get it work but nothing helps.

I used to run my LS-120 and a Zip250 on my AthlonMP, until I ran out of spare IDE plugs. Anyways, add IDE floppy support to your kernel, or if your booting from the livecd modprobe for 'ide-floppy'. That should do it. Another reason I took the LS-120 out was that some Linux boot discs mistake the LS-120 as something else. This really applies to when you want to make a boot disc with a boot floppy script, which doesn't see /dev/fd0, and subsequently cries about the sky falling down on it. You can always make a symlink (ln -s /dev/fd0 /dev/hd?).

1. Check your ls120 to make sure it works - you can test it with a Gentoo LiveCD
2. You may have to format the floppy or ls120mb disk, which you prolly know how to do.
3. You can get lots of support in your native langauge, you just gotta know where to look.
