|
|
Hey.
I just did a quick search and found nothing abotu this in the forums. I'd report this as an ebuild bug, but I'm not entirely sure yet, so I need your input on whether or not this really is a bug...
On my last emerge -up world, I was surprised to find that emerge wanted to compile and essentially downgrade my gnome-panel to version 1.4.2-r2.
I did a little searching and found the culprit to be xchat as seen below.
Code: |
# emerge -up xchat
These are the packages that I would merge, in order:
Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild U ] gnome-base/gnome-panel-1.4.2-r2 [2.2.0.1-r1]
[ebuild U ] net-irc/xchat-1.8.11 [1.8.10-r1]
|
Xchat is for some reason requiring an old version of gnome-panel, and trying to force its downgrade.
So.. Is this a bug, SHould I report it as such?
Thanks,

It's not a bug. Atleast not as long as portage can maintain both versions for you. If portage
unmerges the newer version (ie actually "downgrades") gnome-libs then you can say it's a bug
for in that case, this particular xchat ebuild shouldn't be out in portage.

Oh..I was convinced that was going to unmerge my 2.2 version gnome panel. I guess I was wrong.
Thanks for the help,
