First I have to say that English is not my native language, so I want to apologize for the mistakes i might make.

Since kernelversion 2.6.12 I experience problems running X properly.
The machine hangs after some time, the screen looks like that:
http://jonny.thinkfactory.org/nvidia.jpg
This error is not reproduceable.
I have a nVidia Corporation NV44 [GeForce 6200 TurboCache] (rev a1) running perfectly with kernelversion 2.6.11-gentoo-r11 (and below) but i would like to upgrade to a newer version, because they have some cool new features 8)
This what I found in my logfile after the crash: (I ran the gentoo-sources 2.6.13-r3 that time)
Code:

I have installed

Code:
media-video/nvidia-kernel-1.0.7676
media-video/nvidia-glx-1.0.7676-r1
and
media-video/nvidia-settings-1.0.6629

In the nvidia discussion forums i found this thread:

http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=57990

Are these patches in portage? Is it true that it's the kernel developers' fault (i can't imagine that one)
Here i have the nvidia-bug-report.log if it is of any help:
http://jonny.thinkfactory.org/nvidia-bug-report.log

At the moment i am quite at a loss and don't know what to do.
If you need any more information feel free to ask, I will add it here.

The usual thing to do with unstable amd cpus is to check ram. Run memtest86.

Yes, i know, but the system runs absolutely stable for days with the 2.6.11-r11 kernel.

I had or still have some trouble with nvidia. I looked at the ebuild to figure it out if the zander patch is included or not, but at least I think its not included, so I tried to install nvidias patch by myself with little troubles with some libs. Now I still have no clue what to do because of the errors....

So you have (and had) similar problems?

Yes, I don't know if the problems really disappeared, because I changed to nv instead of nvidia in xorg.conf. My problem is described there --> http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-390499.html

The bug is already posted here http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=109197

I think it would be in the portage soon. As for the problems with nvidia proprietary driver, I had my share of them too (the beloved Xid bug). I also did video bios update and almost lost 250€+ graphic card in the process (Geforce 6800GT 256MB). Ofcourse, bios update didn't change a thing, and I lost days to revert this bad move from my side. Too bad nvidia had bad luck with drivers past 6629. My workaround was to exclude "RenderAccel" option from xorg.conf and include "backingstore" option to get half-decent 2d acceleration. It is a pitty when you buy so expensive piece of hardware you don't have right support. Nvidia, we aren't running Windows here y'know ;-)

Regards
