Hello,

I've just installed 1.4_rc3 and after trying several times to emerge xfree unsuccessfully, I popped in my 1.4_rc2 disc and used the GRP pre-built binaries to install x, kde, gnome, openoffice, and mozilla.

On x, kde, and gnome, i had to re-run the grp-install.sh script several times to finally get everything installed.

After installing all these, I tried to run xf86config, but received an error that it is an unknown command. I went searching for it and found it where I expected it to be and ran it from the X11R6 directory using:
Code:
./xf86config
I successfully completed the config script and then I typed startx and got the same unknown command error. I went to the X11R6 directory and typed
Code:
./startx
and it ran but then i received unknown command errors for about a dozen other scripts that I guess x runs on startup.

I am not sure what is going on here and how to fix it. I followed the same procedures when I had 1.4_rc2 installed and x worked fine
Code:
sh grp-install.sh xfree-list.txt kde-list.txt gnome-list.txt openoffice-bin-list.txt mozilla-list.txt

A note: I mounted the cdrom at /mnt/cdrom and then mounted the /mnt/cdrom/gentoo/packages directory at /GRP using the command
Code:
mount -o bind /mnt/cdrom/gentoo/packages /GRP
as suggested in the install manual.

I ran all the above GRP scripts from the /GRP directory.

Any ideas on how to get the x scripts to work?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Sounds like /usr/X11R6/bin/ isn't in your path. Try doing
Code:
# env-update && source /etc/profile

and try again.
