|
|
Hello all,
I've been using firefox for a long time now, and I have installed the flash plugin from firefox site, and on every page with flash, firefox miserably crashes. I thought upgrading to the latest version would help, but still no go. Interestingly, all other browsers I tried (opera, epiphany, mozilla) crash as well when I visit flash pages.
Is someone experiencing the same problems?
cheers,
-NSKL

Is it possible you are using an x86_64 system?
AFAIK there is still no flash port for 64 bit linux from macromedia. |

| Before you get asked to post more details etc. etc... you say you installed flash through the Firefox site. Have you tried getting rid of it and just emerging it from portage instead? I've found this to be a much more reliable way to get plugins to work in Firefox. |

Are you using the xcomposite extension? If you are | Xorg X11 and Transparency: Mozilla (Firefox) crash Issue with Flash wrote: | If your mozilla/firefox crashes whenever you visit some sites with flash and you enabled the Composite module in xorg.conf, the workaround is:
export XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1
You can either add this line to the startup script for Mozilla/Firefox (/usr/bin/firefox), or export it globally by inserting it to a file under /etc/env.d/ (maybe a new file is better for you):
File: /usr/bin/firefox
export MOZILLA_LAUNCHER=firefox-bin
export XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1
exec /usr/libexec/mozilla-launcher |

Bingo, I was using the composite extension on the X server, and the workaround worked like a charm..
I can finally view flash content now!
Thanks mate,

Wow, mark_alec, thanks for the tip! This has been aggravating me ever since I emerge'd Xorg-7.0 about a month ago. Just goes to prove how valuable the Gentoo forums are--they're a huuuuge part of what makes Gentoo so useful! _________________ Michael Hill

Hi all,
Thanks for the tricks.
It works well on my gentoo2.6.15/kde3.5.2/firefox1.5.0.3/flash7.0.61 desktop
I have spent more than ten days to find a workaround.
Gentoo forum power !

I was worried because both firefox and mozilla kept crashing over and over again.
Thanks for the tip mark, you are my hero once again.
