Still trying to get Ardour-0.99 to emerge. I've posted this several times but noone has offered a solution. I've never have trouble like this before. Usually using emerge is pretty painless.

Anyway, the scons portion of the ebuild gives me this error:
scons: Reading SConscript files ...
Checking for C header file alsa/asoundlib.h... no

ls -l /usr/include/alsa/asoundlib.h
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1823 Sep 30 07:11 /usr/include/alsa/asoundlib.h

I don't know why it doesn't find my alsa headers. Everything else does.

I'm not a programmer and the scons syntax is beyond me.

Thanks.

Sorry about being impatient. I've been fighting this one for a couple weeks now. Just thought maybe you had passed on a fix. I wish I could have already figured it out for myself. I'm one of the types that hate to ask for help.

Here's an updated ebuild and patch:

You can see I got it set up as it found the patch but the results are the same. I have lots of alsa and sound programs already installed. Never had one do this before.

Thanks for your efforts.

Missed something on the patch.. try the patch again (remove it and re-download).

If that doesn't work...

show me lines 663-678 in /usr/lib/scons/SCons/SConf.py and

lines 200-244 in /usr/lib/scons/SCons/Conftest.py...

I'll get this solved yet!

Default is "C".

Hope this helps...

/var/tmp/portage/ardour-0.99/work/ardour-0.99/.sconf_temp/

Check the contents of that when it fails.. paste the contents of all the files in here.

Also

/var/tmp/portage/ardour-0.99/work/ardour-0.99/config.log

Also

Do the strace thing I told you about in the last thread and send me the log of that..

Also:

1) check dmesg
2) upgrade your kernel (strace is showing a lot of illegal seeks)
3) emerge --info
4) what filesystem

OK, I'll try it, that's what I get for living on the bleeding edge. My make.conf is set for ~x86 and I generally am running all the latest versions. Well I'm a revision back on my kernel, linux-2.6.13-gentoo-r2, not -r3 yet. My dmesg is very clean too. Could what you see as illegal seeks be the realtime module or vmware, maybe?

# emerge -Dav gcc glibc

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild R ] sys-devel/gcc-3.4.4-r1 (-altivec) -bootstrap -boundschecking -build +fortran -gcj +gtk -hardened -ip28 (-multilib) -multislot (-n32) (-n64) +nls -nocxx -nopie -nossp -objc -static -vanilla 70 kB
[ebuild R ] sys-libs/glibc-2.3.5-r2 -build -erandom -glibc-compat20 -glibc-omitfp -hardened -linuxthreads-tls (-multilib) +nls -nptl -nptlonly -pic -profile (-selinux) +userlocales 0 kB

# gcc-config -l
[1] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.4.3~
[2] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.4.4 *
[3] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.4.4-hardened
[4] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.4.4-hardenednopie
[5] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.4.4-hardenednopiessp
[6] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.4.4-hardenednossp

I'll post my results as soon as I can.

Thanks

Not yet. I've re-emerged gcc, glibc, python, and scons. I've also rebuilt my kernel too. Nothing has changed. I've never had an emerge fail like that. I'm still at a loss for ideas. Are you having the same problem or just curious?

I get a bunch of stuff like this:
Code:
ACCESS DENIED  unlink:    /usr/lib/scons/SCons/__init__.pyc
ACCESS DENIED  open_wr:   /usr/lib/scons/SCons/__init__.pyc
ACCESS DENIED  unlink:    /usr/lib/scons/SCons/Script/__init__.pyc
ACCESS DENIED  open_wr:   /usr/lib/scons/SCons/Script/__init__.pyc
ACCESS DENIED  unlink:    /usr/lib/scons/SCons/Debug.pyc
ACCESS DENIED  open_wr:   /usr/lib/scons/SCons/Debug.pyc

I don't know what to make of it. I have Ardour 0.9_beta29 installed from back in May, but I keep getting this wierd scons stuff when I try to emerge beta30 or 0.99. I'm stumped. :( I wonder if anyone can emerge ardour these days? :(

Are you logged in as root when you get those errors? I can't get any of the scons tool versions of ardour to emerge. In my case, it looks like scons is working OK but can't find my include headers. I'm almost burned out on trying to update scons. My interest in ardour is mostly curious. I'm working to setup a pc for testing home theater receivers that I repair. Smoe problems require cooking a unit for awhile under load. I want to automate the test. I suppose beta28 is OK. I'm just afraid that as developers pickup the tool, I'll get the problem in another ebuild.

Yes, I'm in as root and the file permissions look fine. I'm going to stick with beta28 and keep my eyes open for other scons problem reports. Someone's bound to fix it sooner or later. Seems Ardour 1.0 should be released soon anyway -- then I'll get more interested in upgrading.
Good luck! -RPM

I figured you were, but ya never know. Beta28 for me too - so far anyway. Think I'll go stare at the tv and forget about it for while. If you're into sound on linux, checkout slashdot tonite. :) Thanks and Good Luck to you too.

Can anyone send me an Ardour 0.9_beta28? I have tried to find this, but no luck. My mail: jano@lcdc.sk

Thanks a lot...

EDIT: I have found src.rpm and unpack it....
