I just emerged ~ppc opera 8.50 on my 12" 1 GHz ibook, with USE="-kde -qt +spell-static" and it works flawlessly. Dunno if it's good enough to unmask, but it beats firefox >1.0.4 for stability for me. |

Spot on mate. It does feel more stable. Kudos for the Opera folks. However Im missing some of my wonderful firefox extensions so after givin it (Opera) the benefit of the doubt Im goin back to my Firefox. _________________ Mebrelith Lord of Thingamajigs, Linux zealot, Gentoo advocate, KDE promoter. Have been using Opera since about 5 years and for 1 1/2 years on my Powerbook under Linux: It is solid as a rock and with the new 8.5 version the ad banners vanished (not that they disturbed me before). Firefox is cool and its extensions are great, but - hell - Opera rocks (it so fast on my PB...)! *rant* It is in my list of the best applications ever:
1. vim
2. Opera
3. screen
4. zsh

Wow, if I knew there was doubt, I would have reported this a week or so ago! _________________ --Aaron |

We can't mark it stable until it's been in the tree for 30 days without bugs (unless there's a security reason). If you remind me again on the 20th of October, I'll mark it stable (if someone else doesn't get to it first!). _________________ Gentoo PPC FAQ: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-ppc-faq.xml

Yes, it's still marked unstable. I've contacted the maintainer to see if he mind if we mark it ppc stable since he hasn't marked it stable himself.
Honestly, if you want to use it, the ppc arch teams markings are just suggestions. You can always decide for yourself using /etc/portage/package.* _________________ Gentoo PPC FAQ: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-ppc-faq.xml |

I've marked it ppc stable after hearing back from the maintainer.
iNDiAnFLy:
The stablility of Opera isn't in question here, but there are certain things that need to be done before an ebuild is marked stable.
In the future, if anyone wants a package marked stable, please file a bug so it doesn't get lost here in the forums!
Thanks! _________________ Gentoo PPC FAQ: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-ppc-faq.xml |
