I installed Gentoo over ten times on different PCs, but that never happened...
I compiled Xfree and Gnome (newest versions) and started x, but

...
(EE) No devices detected

Fatal Error:
no screens found
....

So I checked the XF86Config, but ... there was none!? I renamed the XF86Config.example to XF86Config, but still this error. So I checked if the ports (?) are right. Both on 1.05.00 (I think I remember).

Then I tryed gdm, but it can't start the X server, because it's not set correctly.
The server output says the same like above, and I tryed the X configuration programm.
root password typed, and then I only see a black screen and I can't change the consolesl can't do anythink but a hard restart.

I don't know how to set up the Config correctly, never made it, it was always there, configured by that gdm configuration program.

What can I do now? Where can I get a normal Config, not this example Config with thousands of comments?
Or what went wrong?

Thanks,
Sage

Build one, using xf86config (mind the caps!).
It's a script which will ask you some questions regarding your box, and in the end will write a new XF86config-file.

ok, on my laptop, which I'm writing with, the script exists and runs, but on the desktop pc here it doesn't. The command isn't known.
I tried to emerge, but I can't find it...
Where can I get it?

EDIT:
Ok, solved.
I tried it as root.
But only a user can execute it.
Don't know why, but ok...
