|
|
To start off, I have a slightly odd setup: 2 hard drives, set up as follows:
hda1 -- boot
hda2 -- swap
hda3 -- / (for an installation of libranet)
hda4 -- user
/hdb1 -- currently empty, used to have windows
/hdb2 -- / (for Gentoo)
Now, LILO is currently installed and fully functional under libranet. I use it to boot to either Gentoo or Libranet, and when windows was still installed, I used it to get into that. So rather than install a completly new bootloader, I told Gentoo that lilo was installed (using 'emerge -i lilo-<version>').
The problem is that emerge still tries to install grub any time I do emerge -u world. Why is it doing this when I've told it there's already a bootloader installed? (And please... don't just tell me to install grub. I've tried it in the past, and I'm happy with lilo. It works perfectly well for everything I need.)
And, on a side note, is there a practical way to install LILO on the Gentoo partition so that it can work with the install via libranet? It's a hassle having to boot into libranet every time I want to update my kernel.... |

emerge -u world only tries to upgrade items already installed on you system. Do you already have grub installed? |

doesn't have anything to say if you have grub installed or not anyway... you have to do the stepps in the install to install it in you MBR and so on and forth |
