Ok, so i just finished an emerge -u world and i get the message "Important: 4 config files in /etc need updating, type emerge help config for more information," but when I type emerge help config, portage thinks I am trying to emerge a package called config and says "error, there are no masked or unmasked ebuilds that satisfy the description config." so my questions today are: 1) how do i find out which files need updating and how to update them, 2) how do i fix the portage problem so that when i type in emerge help config, it doesn't think i am trying to merge a package called config, and 3) why do these config files need updating in the first place. Thanks

You should do
Code:
emerge --help config

to display the help.

You can use etc-update to manage the update of configuration files.
Code:
# etc-update
