:( I'm sorry

Unfortunately I have about 15 people downloading via BT and only 5 people seeding, and most of them are Down Under so it's no doubt slow for the rest of the World :(

If I had the bandwidth I'd host it directly myself, but unfortunately I don't yet :(

lol, great! Sorry about the slowness of BT. It's really up to the other downloaders as to the bandwidth available - one of the reasons I chose it! (because my bandwidth is in adequate).

Hope you get it down soon.

Cheers,

So Taskara - Tridge put you onto Linux.
You in Canberra ???.
If so, maybe I missed the only other Gentoo user at LCA a few months back 8O
Going to Dunedin ???.

Have been tending toward Arch recently where I needed a (fast) binary distro - might have to find some space, and try this on a laptop.

Hey, yeah I'm in Canberra. Tridge was working at Linuxcare in the offices next to me when he got me setup with Redhat :)

I haven't gone to any user group meetings.. always far too busy :? but I've been meaning to for years.. I went to Linuxworld in Japan last year though! ;)

Yeah cool, give Kororaa a go! I have included Aussie dictionaries for OpenOffice as well as en_AU.UTF-8 locales :D

I've love to hear what you think.

Cheers,

Ahh bugger :? I'm really sorry! I wish I had a big fat connection I could host it from :(
Good things come to those who wait! :P

Hi stonedlinux,

Going by what you have posted there, it all looks like it's working properly!

You have an IP, you have dns and you can even ping google.

As far as I can see you are perfectly configured. What addresses are failing?

Also, if that is your external IP address, you might wanna remove that from your post.

PostPosted: Thu Oct 06, 2005 4:42 am    Post subject: Problems with Nvidia Reply with quote

Hey Gurus...

First let me say that after installing Gentoo with any possible install method, this install method rocks!!

One thing left to make this install the best.

My Nvidia installation is messed up.

I have menage to emerge Nvidia-glx and kernel and modprobe nvidia
added nvidia to my autoload modules.
changed xorg to use the new nvidia driver and commented out DRI support.

Restarted X and none...

I had an error about loading the nvidia module in the xorg log.

At first I thought it was because of the speedo extension so I removed it but still the same issue nvidia fail to load.

Can anyone tell me what am I doing wrong?

Thanks.
Dekel

Hey Dekel,

What type of video card are you using, and what version of the nvidia-kernel/glx?

I have it running perfectly on my default Kororaa install, which is Kororaa-sources 2.6.13 and nVidia driver 7676 on nVidia 6800Go.

Perhaps you can try the latest version?

Code:
echo "media-video/nvidia-kernel ~x86" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords && echo "media-video/nvidia-glx ~x86" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords
Then try updating the driver with
Code:
emerge -av nvidia-kernel nvidia-glx
Then reboot and see how you go.

Hope this helps!
Cheers,
Chris

Chris.

Thanks a lot.

You the man.
Is there a bug opened about it in Kororaa DB? (I think it should be an easy one, Just unmask the drivers)

Say, I noticed that the kernel is compiled without SMP support, Should I recomplie it due to the fact I am running a 3.0 G prescott?

Also what should be the best CTFLAG values for me?

Sorry for so many questions.. I am eager to learn more and more about my Gentoo box I have already kissed my Windows box goodbye!!!

Thanks a lot for all your help.

Dekel

Hi Dekel,

I don't think that the nvidia issue is really a bug, it's just standard that the older nvidia driver will not have support for a newer kernel, and that older drivers will not support newer hardware.
But if it becomes an issue I'll post a thread about it :)

Actually the Kororaa kernel IS compiled with SMP support
Code:
uname -a
How come you think the kernel is non-SMP?

According to the GCC manual you should use march=prescott "Improved version of Intel Pentium4 CPU with MMX, SSE, SSE2 and SSE3 instruction set support" but you can continue to compile applications with the default Kororaa make.conf without changing anything :)

Cheers,
Chris

Thanks Chris.

I have started to do a emerge -Du world and got an error in the apache compile.

EDIT: Ok, I think I found the problem:
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-384858-highlight-opt+blackdownjre1+4+2+02+bin+javac+directory.html

JDK was not installed and the JRE comes without a compiler.

Still I wonder why the default Kororaa install comes with apache...

P.S.
You were right it is an SMP kernel, I just didnt see it in the KSystem Guard

Yeah, I excluded jdk.

It wants to install apache because you have the apache2 USE flag.

Take the USE flag out (or change it to -apache2) and you should be right.

Thanks Teskara.

Any chance you might know why I cant emerge kde-base/kscreensaver-3.4.2 ?

>>> emerge (2 of 15) kde-base/kscreensaver-3.4.2 to /
>>> md5 files ;-) kscreensaver-3.4.2.ebuild
>>> md5 files ;-) kscreensaver-3.4.1.ebuild
>>> md5 files ;-) files/digest-kscreensaver-3.4.1
>>> md5 files ;-) files/digest-kscreensaver-3.4.2
>>> md5 files ;-) files/configure-fix-kdeartwork-libart.patch
>>> md5 files ;-) files/configure-fix-kdeartwork-xscreensaver.patch

!!! No message digest entry found for file "kdebase-3.4.0.tar.bz2."
!!! Most likely a temporary problem. Try 'emerge sync' again later.
!!! If you are certain of the authenticity of the file then you may type
!!! the following to generate a new digest:
!!! ebuild /usr/portage/category/package/package-version.ebuild digest
localhost ~ #

Thanks.

Yep,

You've emerge sync'd and there is no longer kdebase 3.4.0, but you're using a package from the overlay directory.

Try
Code:
ebuild /usr/portage/local/kde-base/kscreensaver/kscreensaver-3.4.2.ebuild digest

And it mess up my xorg config.

I couldnt find it in any of the rc-update levels.

That is strange. It shouldn't be, unless you've re-emerged it (we editted the script to only run if xorg.conf did not already exist, else it skips).

Just remove it from the default runlevel then
Code:
rc-update del mkxf86config default
should do the trick.

Cheers,
Chris

I even use Gnome Services app and no luck (I removed x-setup from the default run level.

Also, After I emerge Gnome I cannot login with my regular user.
I get a permission error about a file : .dmrc in the user home directory that has wrong permission, Even after changing it to 644 or 655 or even 777 I get the error.
Currently I can only login with root.

Let me know if any other output is needed.

Thanks again for all you help.

Could you
Code:
cat /etc/init.d/autoconfig |grep X11
for me, and if it says X11="yes", then change it to no.
X configuration is now added to that script, instead of being seperate now.

Is it just me, or is the torrent unavailable ???.
I did a test from work the other day, and it was SLOOoooowwww.
Decided to try from home, but no luck at all. I'm new to torrent - does it require peers for me to download, or does it just affect the speed ???.
I don't see any peers, and so far no download at all .... :?
