give away hardware for free - HPPA - MIPS

Dear all,

My company will remove some hardware items from its inventory.
The following things are given away for free to the first person who shows interest:

2x HP9000 B132L HPPA
1x SGI Indy IP22 MIPS

Some addons will be provided but I have to check first. The same applies for the details of above mentioned workstations.

Drawback: You have to pick it up by yourself at our place near Dresden, Germany.
As these things are quite heavy we can't ship them.
In case none is interested these things will be scrapped by end of february 2006.

I'm afraid I won't be flying over to pick up any gear... but perhaps for those who are... you might like to publish the specs on the boxes?

On the Indy, in the PROM, go to the prompt (option 5), and type hinv to see what it's got. If you haven't got a monitor, the machine will default to using serial console if no keyboard is present -- simply use a Macintosh->DB25 serial converter & a null modem cable to hook up to another workstation, then set your serial program to use 9600, 8-bits, no parity, one stop bit.

I'd imagine the PA RISC machines are similar, but since I've never even seen a PA RISC, much less used one, I wouldn't know.

Good luck finding new homes for those boxes ... would be a shame to see those end up at the tip. :-)

OK, so far I've seen I should add some datails.

Both types are surplus including all addons which are external harddisks keyboards and monitors. The Indy comes with an external bootable CDROM and
Indycam too. One of the HPs possess an CDROM too and floppy....
But I have to check this.

Monitors: Both Workstations posses special Video-Outs so the best would be to use the existing ones otherwise you have to build an RgsB to VGA adaptor
in case of the HPs. Monitors are at least 19" CRTs.

We can't ship them - because we dont have the time to pack them.

Later this day I will come up with some technical specs for these things.

8bit Graphics XL-8

(there was no boot HD installed but it will be a 1Gb SCSI or so)

The SGI Monitors are working: GDM-20D11 und GDM-17E11

Ahh okay, is it a v2.0 R4600 or a v1.7?

I have a v2.0 R4600SC Indy myself. These run Linux okay, but they're a little flakey running kernel 2.6. This has been improving though, the latest mips-sources seems to be running reasonably stable on my box at the moment. The 1.7s apparently don't run Linux well at all, not even 2.4... I'm not sure what the deal is there.

Of course, this is a moot point if the future owner intends to run IRIX or NetBSD on it -- NetBSD may work where Linux fails... and IRIX will work by default. :-)

Hi all,
here some more details

each of the two HP9000 B132L will be equiped as follow:
192MB Ram
A4071B Graphics ( this Card is capable of running X; I've installed Gentoo successfully on a third one which we will keep)
2 Gb HDD (at least)
CDROM (one comes with an floppy too)
Monitor

SGI Indy
R4600 100MHz with FPU (how do I check the version in boot hinv?)
96MB RAM (I've found some other SIMMs)
XL-8 Graphics
at least 1Gb HDD
IndyCam
SGI Keyboard
bootable external CDROM
Monitor GDM-20D11 20" or GDM17E11 17"

All Workstations comes with full cableing terminators etc.

One more time; if you are interesed in one or all of them you have to pick them up at our place near Dresden/Germany
otherwise the things will be scrapped by end of February 2006.
