Hello,

I intend to install a new Gentoo/FreeBSD system. I already have some experience as i've installed a linux gentoo system from stage 1.
I have a 6gb hard drive, which will be used for this target.
My questions are:
    1. What partitioning scheme is recommended for a hd of this small size?

    2. On the installation guide it is written that one should untar a stage 3 tar file. I looked into this tar file and found out that it contains a file system with /usr /var etc. folders. Should i create more than one partition for the / (say i have a different one for / and a different one for /usr), how will i be able to untar this file, and have it's contents go to the right places? [I assume that to do all this i will need to use a live-cd, and so i will already have /usr mapped to the live cd's /usr folder]

    3. The guide also does not specify what should i already have installed on the system, before i untar the stage 3 file. Should i install the minimal system there? Should i do nothing other than partition the drive, and label the partitions?

Please help me, as i want to start this project as soon as i can.

with small disk and for testing pourpose I recommend just to create the / partion and a swap (200MB-500MB for example)

See question 1. It's indifferent to create a single inestead many partitions. If you want create separated partitions for /var or /usr, I reccomend to allocate a large amount of bytes for these directories.

You need just the tar file. You should create an(some) empty partion(s) to install the Gentoo/FreeBSD. You needn't minimal FreeBSD installation.

ciao
