Lost and confused...

ok so I rtfm and entered the

video=vesafb:mtrr,ywrap,800x600@85

so I reboot take out the cd and the graphical grubs interface comes up

so i click "finalizing your gentoo installation" in which takes me here

ok so at this screen is says to create a user

ogin: root
Password: (Your root password)

# useradd -m -G users,wheel,audio -s /bin/bash john
# passwd john
Password: (Enter the password for john)
Re-enter password: (Re-enter the password to verify)

I enter this exact information and it says error 27: unrecognized command

Now I'm lost.... and how the hell do I get to the GNOME interface from here? I'm confused
