Alright....the whole ln -sf /blah/to/timezone /etc/blah thing never changed the output of uname -a, but emerge sys-kernel/gentoo-source worked fine.

All of the other emerges went great....sysklogd, and vcron. But emerge sys-apps/reiserfsprogs returns the following (after dling some stuff, this appears at exit):

checking whether build environment is sane... configure: error: newly created file is older than distributed files!
Check your system clock
!!! ERROR sys-apps/reiserfsprogs-3.6.4-r1 failed
!!! function src_compile, Line 2, Exitcode 1

Any ideas? Like I said, I couldn't get ln or zic to do anything, but why does this one fail when the others pass?

Does ebuild /usr/portage/sys-apps/reiserfsprogs/reiserfsprogs-3.6.4-r1.ebuild clean before emerge sys-apps/reiserfsprogs, solve the problem?

Good luck,
Ricardo Cordeiro :)

PS - Take sometime to man ebuild, it's quite usefull.

Make sure your clock is right. I had a problem this this when I was installing gentoo because my clock was off by a couple of days.
