I recently installed Gentoo on a server machine. I've decided to take the plunge and try an UTF-8 only system. We use the en_US.UTF_8 locale for everything but we use the canadian french (cf) keyboard layout for the accents. When the system is used via a VT, there is no problem. The problem appear using SSH. When trying to type accentuated caracters, they doesn't shows correctly or they appears after pressing another key. Executing "unicode_start" solve the problem so I've added it to /etc/profile but I've found that executing this command under a normal user account print these messages:
Couldnt get a file descriptor referring to the console
Couldnt get a file descriptor referring to the console
Couldnt get a file descriptor referring to the console
Couldnt get a file descriptor referring to the console
Is there any clean way to enable automaticly unicode on ssh session?

I found a solution when viewing the script unicode_start. I added
echo -n -e '\033%G'
to /etc/profile and it works flawlesly! _________________ Codito, Ergo Sum |
