Hi Gentooists,
I have installed 2005.1 from stage 3 package. So far, so good. I did everything according to handbook, which went almost smooth (had to compile and install grub by hand, but works) and finally rebooted my box. Now comes the problem: Gentoo boots up properly and shows the login line. But, it won't let me in! I can't even input my password. It looks like that:
Code: |
This is fozzie.(none) (Linux x86_64 2.6.12-gentoo-r6) 16:35:57
fozzie login: root
Login incorrect
|
Immediately after typing root and hitting return it comes back saying Login incorrect. What's wrong? Where should I have a look?
Manfred
PS: During first boot after installation I had a problem that /lib/rcfiles/... was not found because it was actually located in /lib64/rcfiles/... I have symlinked the rcfiles directory from /lib64 to /lib. Anything more to symlink? Is that a related problem?

Well, answering myself... Had a good idea, though. I have moved the /lib directory to lib.old and symlinked then /lib64 directory to /lib. That was the solution... Works now. Stupid mistake... I suppose Gentoo left that lib directory untouched because it found something from an old Suse installation in it. Otherwise I wouldn't have run into this problem, I guess.
