Hi everybody!
I was doing a stage 1 installation of Linux Gentoo and, when it was time to bootstrap my system, I got an error while compiling texinfo. I'm using the stage 1 x86 tarball.

My system is a Celeron Coppermine 600MHZ.
Make.conf:

CFLAGS="-march=pentium3 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -O2"
C++Flags are on Cflags....
LDFLAGS="Wl, -O1"
Features = -strict
CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu"

Code:

checking for a BSD-compatible install... /bin/install -c
checking whether build environment is sane... yes
checking for gawk... gawk
checking whether make sets $(MAKE)... yes
checking whether to enable maintainer-specific portions of Makefiles... no
checking for i686-pc-linux-gnu-gcc... no
checking for gcc... gcc
checking for C compiler default output file name... configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables
See `config.log' for more details.

Code:

[1] i386-pc-linux-gnu-3.3.5-20050130 *
[2] i386-pc-linux-gnu-3.3.5-20050130-hardened
[3] i386-pc-linux-gnu-3.3.5-20050130-hardenednopie
[4] i386-pc-linux-gnu-3.3.5-20050130-hardenednopiessp
[5] i386-pc-linux-gnu-3.3.5-20050130-hardenednossp

(Well, the gcc-config -l output is not the same one as on my computer. The only difference may be the version of gcc. But the prefix "i386-pc-linux-gnu" is the same on my comp).

Thank you!

Erythro

you got an error in CFLAGS:
it is -pipe and not -pipes
in the config.log you'll find gcc shoting at you about this

OOps. Sorry. I didn't copy it correctly.

(I don't know how to copy-paste lines from my terminal, so I do by hand...).

Moved from Installing Gentoo to Duplicate Threads in favour of this FAQ: GF20: C compiler cannot create executables.
